"Hey Tess."

On Monday morning, I roamed Crossworth's halls to meet up with Nathan and Lennox. When I spotted them near my locker, we decided to retreat to our hideout behind the library.

"So what's new?" Lennox asked casually.

I wedged myself between Nathan and her on a low trunk of the huge tree next to the soccer field. "Mr. Simmons is giving a pop quiz today," Nathan said.

"How do you know? Aren't those supposed to be secret?" Lennox asked.

"I sneaked into the teacher's lounge to get something..."

"What the hell would you need from a teachers lounge?" I asked amused.

"Their breakfast is so much better than ours!" Nathan answered.

I laughed, because that was so unlike him. Nate is a nice guy, but he's so damn quiet and such an introvert. Aside from his perfect GPA, his only friends are Lennox and me. He isn't a risk-taker, and he isn't very social. He's that awkward guy that preppy girls are afraid of, thinking they'll get a disease from being seen with him. Basically, he's a social reject. But to me, he's the best figurative older brother I could ask for. He's always there for Lennox and me.

Lennox, on the other hand, is the on the other extreme of the chillness scale. She's outgoing and loud and she'll put anyone in their place. She's rebellious and adventurous. She is the kind of person who would trespass into the teachers lounge for a chocolate muffin, not Nathan.

I'm the perfect blend of them both. Nice, quiet when I want, but also adventurous and loud.

"Why'd you really break in, Nate?" I asked still smiling.

He sighed. "So, there's this girl I like... Her name is Samantha, but I won't tell you which of the 4 Samantha's in our grade. Anyways, she actually acknowledged my existence yesterday, but she needed a favor, and it involved accessing one of the teacher's laptops."

"Oh God," Lennox facepalmed. "You broke a serious rule for some girl you barely know? And for what? What did she give you in return?"

"Her number," Nate beamed.

"Ew," Lennox grimaced.

"Hey," I said defensive of Nathan. "He might be the world's biggest nerd and social outcast, but he's not entirely ugly." I paused. "Oh, that sounds mean... ok let me rephrase: if a girl ever saw him for the first time without knowing how nerdy he is, she might actually find him attractive."

"Ew," Lennox repeated again.

"Oh sorry, I forgot you're Lesbian Lennox," Nathan joked. Lennox reached over my body and grabbed him by his collar, giving him a death glare. "If you value your life, you will apologize."

"Nah, I'm good." He grinned, and right before Lennox murdered him, I changed the subject.

"Soooo I had an interesting development over the weekend..." I said nonchalantly. "Some guy started texting me and—"

"OMG who? When? Where? Why? How?" Lennox had totally forgotten about Nate and tuned into me.

"Um, who? His name is Aaron. He says he went to school with Nathan, but he didn't specify if he goes to Cross—"

"Aaron Kantall?" Nathan asked incredulously.

"Kendall," I corrected.

"Yeah I remember him! He was cool."

"What does he look like?!" My voice had a bit too much desperation, and Nate laughed.

"Tall, skinny but built, pale skin, light brown hair, blue-gray eyes," he said, trying to remember.

"Sounds like you're crushing on him," Lennox said coolly.

"He used to have all the girls swooning over him, but he didn't pay attention to many. I haven't seen him in a while," Nate added. "So maybe he's fat and ugly now."

I felt a pang in my chest as soon as Nate implied this guy is hot with girls throwing themselves at him.

"So anyways," I interjected. "Where, through Google Plus. Why, I don't know. When? I think about 5 days—"

"FIVE DAYS AGO?! WHY AM I JUST FINDING OUT NOW?" Lennox shrieked.

"Calm down! I don't know, you were busy over the weekend—"

"But this is GUY stuff. You know I'll drop a wedding rehearsal in a heartbeat if it means I get to gossip instead."

Nathan and I laughed at her desperation for gossip. "It's nothing juicy, I promise. He just randomly texted me one day. He's funny and smart and sarcastic like me, so I guess we just hit it off pretty well..."

Nathan chuckled. "Sounds like my little sis is in love."

"Shut the hell up, I can barely tolerate the guy. Anyways, do you know where he goes to school or where he lives?"

Just then, the bell rung, indicating we were already late for our first class. Lennox flew up from the tree and ran towards the school. "GOOD LUCK ON THAT POP QUIZ!"
