This makes no sense. I'm not divergent, whatever that means. I'm just an initiate. That's all. "What... what do you mean?" Matthew looks grim. "I don't know much, but I do know this... you defied the serum. You weren't supposed to snap out of it so fast. That's just not normal. It is very rare, but sometimes, a handful of initiates manage to do this, and that makes them... that makes them dangerous. They don't fit into the faction system. They can't be controlled."

My eyes widen. They can't be controlled. I can't be controlled. I'm dangerous. "What do I do?" It was bad enough being hunted by Marcus, but by the entire government? That sounded ten times worse. "I can only ask that you try to stay in the simulation for as long as humanly possible. Don't doubt for a minute that any leader will jump at the chance to turn you in if they find out what you are."

Turn me in? Just because I got out of a simulation too quickly? "Will you turn me in?" I glance at the door, wishing I could disappear. "No. I won't." I frown. "Why?" Matthew looks me in the eye. "Because I think you're my son."
