*June's p.o.v.*
I smiled as I overlooked the array of students in the room. My eyes narrowed in at the empty seat in the back of the class where August usually sat.
"Miss,".
I looked over at where the voice came from. Melvin's eyes darted directly at me, his lips weren't curved into a smile like I had expected them to.
"Yes?".
"Why you back?".
His crowd of friends around him let out short outbursts of laughter.
"You're not happy I'm back?" I asked, trying hard to hold back my offense.
"No, I liked Mrs. Raye better," He responded. "She treated everyone equally,".
I cleared my throat. "Melvin I'm sure that I treat all my students equally,".
"Nah, August gets all the attention," He shot back, arching an eyebrow at me playfully. "Everyone agrees, they just not gonna tell you,".
I glanced around the class at the lowered heads of the students.
"Well I apologize, I hadn't realized. I will divide my attention equally among all of you," I responded squarely, then turning my back to them and towards the board.
"Okay so today I would like to go over how to write an essay. In college, essays are usually 15 to 20 pages so-,".
The wooden door creaked open and a hooded figure stepped in, immediately I realized it was August.
"Drop your pass on my desk," I said, never taking my eyes off of the board I scribbled on with chalk.
"I don't have one," He mumbled back.
"Detention after school," I replied sharply, before facing the class again.
"Okay so how do you start an Essay?".
A girl raised her hand and I pointed at her.
"With a claim,".
"Correct, you always start an essay with a claim,".

A knock sounded at the closest door causing me to lift my face from the papers I had been grading. I pushed my glasses further over the bride of my slightly healed nose.
"It's open," I called out.
After a second the door opened, and August walked in.
"You can sit wherever you'd like. You only have to stay for 45 minutes," I instructed, looking to him for a brief moment then returning to grading papers.
He sat down in the front seat in front of my desk.
"I know da drill June," He smirked, slouching back in his seat.
"It's Ms. Aiko, and I'm grading papers so please can you keep quiet,".
"Iight," He said.
It was quiet for a couple minutes then August spoke.
"What did I get on da test ya grading?".
I picked up a paper from the pile, handing it over to him. "Come grab it,".
He stood up, neared my desk and went to grasp the paper. His fingers grazed my hand causing me to look up at him. He looked so handsome with his beard perfectly shaped and his bottom grills showing as he smiled.
"A 98? " He commented, looking at me seriously.
"Y-yeah, you did well. One of the best in the class," I said.
He chuckled, grabbing onto his chin hair and stroking it.
"The ball is in ya court na', June,".
With that he winked, and neared the door.
"Hey," I stood to my feet. "You have to stay for 20 more minutes,".
"I'll see ya' tomorrow June,".
