"Really june?" My conscious snapped at me. "Did you really tell that boy you think he's special? ".
I tiredly rubbed my hand over my face.
I was sitting at the edge of my bed, with my ringing phone in my left hand and a cold slice of pizza in my right hand.
After a couple more seconds of hearing my stupid ring tone go off for what felt like the hundredth time, I hesitantly picked up.
"Yes Sean, is there a reason why you've been calling my phone nonstop for the past five minutes?".
"Damn June, you still acting like that after I helped you bring an unconscious student to your apartment? You at least owe me a nice 'Hello' when you pick up your phone to talk to me," He murmered on the other end of the phone. "Speaking of that kid, how's he doing?".
I sighed, really not in the mood to have a conversation with Sean. What I really would like to be doing is trying to get some rest.
"He's doing fine, I see him in class everyday. Is there a reason why you called me?".
He chuckled. "I just missed hearing your voice, haven't heard it in a couple days,".
It was my turn to chuckle. "Sean really? What happened this time? Lemme guess? Your baby mother kicked you out and you need a place to stay?".
"June cut the attitude, last time I checked you kicked me out after I gave you head,".
"And prior to that you didn't call or see me for about two weeks, I'm guessing for those two weeks you and your baby mother were doing well so I was kicked out of the picture,".
Sean took a deep breath, then it was silent for a long time.
"Listen june, I didn't call to argue. I called to see if I could take you to lunch tomorrow?".
"Sean I-,".
"Before you say no can you please understand that I'm trying June, I haven't spoke to my baby mother for a whole month. I go over to see my kids but that's it. I miss us June. I miss the way things used to be. I don't want to play games anymore,".
I stood up from my bed, overlooking the colorful scenery on the other side of my huge window. I placed my hand against the glass, with my cell phone still pressed to my ear.
"Okay,".
"Foreal june? You're serious?" He exclaimed joyfully.
"Don't make me regret this Sean," I warned seriously.
"You won't. I'm gonna let you get some rest, Goodnight beautiful,".
I rolled my eyes before responding. "Goodnight Sean,".
After I ended the call with Sean I thought about how things were when I first met Sean. A couple of weeks after my social worker Ms. Bonds found a way to get me out of China, and while I was jumping from job to job I had met Sean. I remembered the day as if it had just happened yesterday.
"Excuse me," I tapped a young lady's shoulder in an attempt to get her to give me the information on getting to the nearest bus stop.
She swirled around so fast I thought she would suffer from whiplash, but when I noticed the mean scowl on her face I immediately pulled my hand back.
"Nevermind," I mumbled as I continued to walk straight, holding a paper map Ms. Bonds claimed would help me around this new city.
"This is useless," I uttered, crumbling the map and throwing it into a nearby trashcan.
"Um miss,".
