The darkness is all around me
I've never let it in
I hear it's seething whisper
Silent on the wind
Always drawing closer
Never far away
Running out of excuses
When will this night be day
I hold it all so far from me
Fearing what's not true
Believing only what I've seen
Such a distance from me to you
Maybe it's not the darkness
Maybe it's only fear
I tremble at the thought
Of having you so near
A sense of perpetual loneliness
Is where my heart will stay
Hiding in this darkness
Holding the world at bay
