Chapter 21

Walking out, checking I had all my bags, I bumped into someone. ‘Oops, sorry.’

‘No problem,’ he responded. ‘Oh, Kerry. Hey, I didn’t know you lived round here.’ It was Ethan.

‘Ethan. Oh, hey. Sorry about that.’ We stepped to the side to get out of peoples’ way. ‘No, I don’t. I’m here shopping with some friends. What are you doing in town?’

‘Shopping too, but on my own, mum wanted me to get some stuff so I decided to look for some things for myself. Mind if I tag along for a bit, I’ve pretty much got what I want now.’

Brushing my hair out of my face, I pouted my lips. ‘Yeh, sure. I doubt the other two will mind.’

He walked with me back to the meet Ash and Sharlene, who were waiting outside the shop I had left them in.

‘There you are. I was about to phone you to see where you had got to. Who’s this?’ Sharlene asked on seeing Ethan.

‘Ash, Sharlene, this is Ethan. He goes to our school but he’s a little new.’

‘Hello. I think I’ve seen you around. I’m not sure, there’s too many people in it.’ He chuckled.

We all started walking to the next set of shops. ‘So how do you know Ethan?’ Ashley asked from beside me, but so Ethan couldn’t hear.

‘I met him in school during that race on the field. He’s human though, which was weird. I know there aren’t that many humans at school; I’m surprised I even know any that is before I met Ethan.’

She winked at me and I furrowed my eyebrows quickly. Clearly she thought Ethan and I had something in common, which was obviously the fact that we were both human and were more likely to understand each other.

I spent the rest of the day shopping and talking between the other three as well as making sure I had everything with me whenever I put a bag or two down.

At the end of our shopping spree, Ethan said goodbye and we headed in opposite directions to go home; which consisted of strange looks and even more strange questions from Ash and Sharlene until they dropped me off at my house.

Snuggled up to his side, Baz caressed me with his hand as I just held both of mine around him. He had asked me how my day was and what I had got up to, not really what I bought; I told him the sequence of events, even the bumping into Ethan. This part ended with me thumping him in the arm by the suspicious looks he gave me when I had finished.

‘What did you buy then?’ he asked while rubbing his arm.

Smiling and kissing his cheek, I teased him. ‘I’ll show you if you like? Plus I got something for you. I know, I know...’ I interrupted his sighing. ‘You didn’t want anything, but this was my choice.’

We made our way upstairs to his after I picked my bags up from my room. In there, he sat down on the edge of the bed and waited as I sorted my bags. Before I got anything out, I straddled up onto his lap, him supporting me in the usual way. We kissed and cuddled for a bit before he said anything.
