Chapter 4
Back to the present, and I found myself to be lost in my memory train of thought. Baz was looking at me with, what was to me, a confusing air of passion about him. He leant forward slightly then pressed his forehead to mine; only then did I notice how long I’d been holding my breath for. I breathed out as slowly and quietly as I could, then as I breathed in my lips stretched into my smile that assured him I was collect and clear of my thoughts.
‘Ahem,’ came a voice from just in front of us. We turned our heads sideways, foreheads still touching, to stare at a classmate. The two boys clapped hands and clasped fists before either spoke.
‘Alright, Liam?’ Baz started.
‘Alright? See you’re still fooling around,’ he chuckled. Knowing he wasn’t being harsh, we both smiled and I giggled slightly, and when I giggle like this I find my arms have to wrap themselves around some part of Baz’s being; his arm being the closest thing to me right now, they clasped around that. ‘Haha, well glad to see you’re better these days. What’s been happening?’
‘Oh, the usual, so-so, not really a lot. But then again, I ain’t heard off all my contacts. What about you?’ he asked back. His arms then sneakily wrapped around my waist, so sneakily that Liam didn’t raise his eyebrows or look assuming as he spoke.
‘Yeh, I know how it is. These days it’s difficult to keep in touch with everyone. Anyways, catch ya later.’ And without a goodbye or nod or wink, he stood up and headed out of the classroom door. It was at that point that the classroom was emptying, so we unfolded ourselves from each other and headed out the door as swiftly as possible.
I didn’t pay much attention to the rest of the day, anything that I was told didn’t sink in and absorb as is my usual way while in school. Maybe the stress of all the moving around was getting to me and I just needed a breather from all my unpacking and organising. Thinking of that well needed break; it dawned on me that I hadn’t been out in a long time. I missed the feel of loud music as it pierces through my body, in a club. Perking myself up a bit and putting a huge grin on my face, I sat up straight in my seat (we were in the canteen).
‘You guys feel like going out tonight?’ I asked aloud. They all stopped their quiet, little chats among themselves and looked at me. It would be correct to say that a few of them thought I was, maybe, a little bizarre but whatever they thought right now didn’t bother me. ‘Come on, bet you all miss it too. I do, and we could all do with it after any moving some of us have done, if not all of us.’
Lips quickly pressed against my cheek, Baz chuckled in my ear. ‘You know, you really do surprise us all sometimes. Almost like you were...’ I took in the smirked hesitation, ‘reading our minds.’ He slowed his voice down slightly at that point.
‘Well, I assure you I wasn’t nor can I, so what do you say? Pleeeeeease!’ I begged teasingly, with a glint in my eyes that I knew would make him breathe slower and almost do as I wanted.
He twitched his nose. ‘There you go again. I hate it when you do that, ya know. We’ll think about it, yeh, guys?’ he pointed to his mates. Mumbling away and then sinking into their conversations once again. Meanwhile, Baz was still leant close to my ear. ‘Kez, I was hoping me and you could have a night together. You know just me... and you.’ Looking so quickly into his eyes, I misjudged the gap between us and our foreheads banged together once again. ‘Ow! Ya know, if you wanted to get into my head that bad then that is not the way to do it.’
