Chapter 5

At first, when I found out I couldn’t get myself to believe it all; but as I got used to it (him and all his friends) I realised this was a bit strange that nearly everyone I know, through Barry, was a werewolf. So used to it by now, it didn’t bother me at all whenever one of them would change.

It took a while for him to re-establish himself, in a manner of speaking, walked up to me, scooped me off my feet then headed to the stairs. At first, I tried resisting and attempted hopping down out of his hold but he pulled me closer to his chest and, when he had caught my eyes, didn’t stop staring at me until he had gradually placed me on the side of my bed.

Walking over to the door, he locked it shut then bowed his head before looking over his shoulder at me. The hungry look in his eyes sent a wave of fear through me and, trembling slightly, I backed up so my back was pressed hard against my headboard and brought my knees up to my chest.

‘Tif, I’m not like that, how you said I was before. And you know it, deep down you do. I’m not thinking of that one thing at all.’ Turned around now, he made his way over and sat on the very corner of my bed.

I looked down at my hands and saw they were shaking, I’d never felt this way before. Making myself look up, it became clear that he wasn’t going to look at me, at least not for a while. ‘Baz, I’m so sorry I said all those things.’ My voice began shaking as soon as I said his name, fresh tears collected in my eyes and streamed down my cheeks. Burying my face in my hands, I sobbed hard and my whole body shook.

The bed dipped a bit as he shuffled closer; I felt the warm touch of his skin on mine and his other hand gently on my shoulder. ‘Kerry, why would you say that if you didn’t mean it? But, I do know you’re sorry and I forgive you. Now will you please stop this crying and look at me again.’ Unable to not do as he said, I lowered my hands and blinked away any more tears then softly laid my gaze on his eyes. ‘There, now do you want to cuddle with me?’

I nodded, my lips pressed together. He smiled then changed in front of me. Flopping his fluffy head into my lap, he shuffled his furry self closer. Wrapping my arms round his maned neck, I stroked between his ears. Both of us relaxing, we closed our eyes and fell asleep like this for at least three hours.

Blinking my eyes open, shuffling onto my side, I looked up at the window and saw it was still dark outside, the moon was just passing by the window. A little coldness and wetness touched my cheek, at first I thought it was a tear then I realised it was him pressing his nose to me. Turning my head around, I slid my arms over his mane and wrapped them round his muscular neck. Feeling his left forepaw rest over my chest, I pushed up a bit so I could sit up better. I played my fingers through the fur on the back of his neck; then someone rapped on the door. Lifting his head off me, Baz leapt off the bed onto the floor, changed back and answered the door. Whoever it was, they mumbled then disappeared down the stairs together.

Using the time alone to catch up on some sleep, I closed my eyes and drifted off, feeling a bit cold without Baz’s warmth around me.

Sat on a chair, in one of the drama studios, Baz lying on the floor next to me (I was stroking his fur as usual); us and everyone else in the class listened to our favourite drama teacher, Cayleb. He was one of the funniest teachers in the school but he was also really good at his job, although when he needed to be serious he was very serious, and he was also very young compared to the other teachers and most girls drooled over him when he walked by them.
