Chapter 2

A rapping on his bedroom door made me gasp with shock and jolt upright which caused our heads to bang together and I felt dizzy and disorientated.

‘Ow!’ he yelped as I fell back down onto the bed. ‘One minute!’ he shouted to the door. ‘Kerry? You alright, baby?’ Covering my eyes with my right hand, I waved him to go to the door while I sorted my head out. ‘What?’ he asked stubbornly to whomever it was that had disturbed us.

Sitting up, my eyes half open, I saw that it was Charlie stood on the other side in the small hallway. Shaking my head, I then realised I was still pretty much completely naked and lying on Baz’s bed. With yet another gasp of air, I rolled over and fell off the far side of it so he could no longer see me. Both of them chuckling rather frantically, they shut the door so they could give me some privacy to get dressed.

Tying my hair up in a ponytail, I walked to the door and opened it slowly. On seeing Charlie’s eyes, my cheeks flushed bright red straight away, I tried walking past but that wasn’t going to happen.

‘Where do you think you’re going?’ Baz asked while he grabbed my arm and pulled me into his warm hug. ‘That’s better. So what if she’s here, what’s she gonna do? Make me leave?’ At first I thought he meant me, but looking up at his expression I figured out who he really meant.

‘Well, no. But you know what she’s like. Look, I’m not trying to cause any trouble between you two, but you’d best watch it for the first couple of weeks. Oh, and this didn’t happen.’ Charlie’s eyes quickly flicked to me and then back to Baz.

‘Don’t know what you’re talking about,’ he replied with a wink. ‘See you in a bit.’

‘Yeh.’ And Charlie headed downstairs with a little smug hum escaping his pursed lips.

‘Babe..? Kerry?’ he added when I didn’t answer. Blinking my eyes, I looked up at him then let him go and walked past and back into his room again. ‘Hey, what’s up?’ he asked.

‘How can you not find that totally embarrassing?’ I asked, almost shouting at him. Shock filled his eyes as he stepped in and closed the door behind his back. ‘I mean hello! He just... I mean...’ I couldn’t get myself to say exactly what I wanted; and turning around, I covered my face with both my hands. Feeling his arms around me was a comfort no one else could replace, and it did settle my heavy breathing.

‘It’s all ok, he won’t tell anyone. I trust him, so should you. Babe, come on, it’s fine. Look at me.’ Turning me around slowly, he bent down a little so to get my eyes to look at his. ‘Cheer up. Yes, it was a little embarrassing, but I’m not overly bothered by it. You’re my girl, aren’t you? And he’s my best mate, he won’t care one little bit. And neither do I. It’ll all be ok.’ He wrapped his arms right around me, and pulled me off the floor slightly then kissed me sweetly before placing me down. ‘Now, what do you want to do? It’s...’ He looked at his watch quickly. ‘Only quarter to eleven. Hmm, not long since you first came in. Haha, anyway. Breakfast, I think.’

Walking down the stairs, I heard the giggles of another girl and my stomach tightened up when I realised who it might be. Baz walking in front of me, I swiftly reached out, took his hand and gripped it tightly. He stumbled off the last step and looked at me.

‘What’s up?’ he asked, but my eyes averted to the door that led to the kitchen. ‘Oh, hey. Don’t worry about her. Like she knows what she has in store for her if she interferes or says anything.’ A sweet kiss on the cheek and he pulled me through. My lips pouted in a huff until we rounded through the door and I almost bumped into her.
