I sit at the dinner table with my left arm awkwardly under the table away from eyesight. I stare at the vase that's placed in the middle of the table. The red-brown color of the vase shines due to the light. "Dinner is almost ready." I hear Hades shout. Suddenly I hear a shout from him that makes me get up and run to him.
"What happened!" I shout as I enter the kitchen. I see him hunched over, holding his hand close to him. I look at Hazel, who is busy seasoning the chicken. Her eyes swiftly look at me.
"This idiot wanted to help out and did exactly what I told him not to do." She says. "I told him not to touch the oven because it is hot." She continues to season the bird. I go, and grab a cold cloth, and put it on Hades' injured hand. He hisses in pain. I help him sit down on a chair in the dining room. I go to the bathroom to find the first aid kit. As I grab the rubbing alcohol, I wonder why Hazel didn't help him out. She just acted as if nothing happened. I grab a fresh cloth and walk back to Hades' side.
"I got the rubbing alcohol," I say, shaking the bottle. Hades looks at me and grunts. I kneel and wet the cloth. I gently place the wet towel on Hades' burn.
"Son of-"
"Don't you dare finish that sentence!" I hear Hazel shout from the kitchen. I wrap his hand up and sit down next to him. I stare at him as he stares at his banded hand. His long dark eyelashes cast a shadow over his bright blue eyes.
"Thank you." He says.
"It's nothing," I say. I open my mouth to say something about Hazel, but I decided against it. He looks at me.
"You better go help, Hazel. I was clearly not the right person to help her out." He says, laughing a bit. I nod and get up.
"Are you sure you're okay?" I say, worried. He waves me off.
"I'm fine." He stands up and walks to the couch. I walk into the kitchen and see Hazel chopping cucumbers.
"Do you need help?" I ask.
"You can chop these cucumbers, and place them into the water while I go, and check on the chicken." She says, putting the knife down. I nod and go to grab the knife. As I chop, I glance at her as she opened the oven to look at the golden chicken. The silence is deafening. She doesn't say anything, and it's quite infuriating. I put the knife down, and turn to look at her as she gets out plates. I want to tell her off, but I can't bring myself to do it. I turn back around and dump the cucumber slices into the water.
Picking up the jar, I go to place it on the table. Setting it down, I glance at Hades, who looks at the window overlooking the vast forest. I walk back to the kitchen and observe Hazel carve the chicken. "Is dinner ready?" I hear Hades ask. I turn my head to see him leaning on the kitchen wall.
"Yes," Hazel says, showing him the chicken. He smiles like a little boy.
"Looks delicious, Hazel." He walks to her and hugs her from behind. I smile at how cute they are. She shouts at him to let her go, but he refuses. I grab the stack of plates and walk out of the kitchen.
"Ursula," Ulla says. I close my eyes as I feel a bit lightheaded. "I can't be crammed in here for too long. I need to stretch. We need to be running not getting comfortable with these humans." She sounds a bit erratic.
"Ulla, you need to calm down. Tonight when they are asleep, I'll let you out." I say.
"Promise?" She quietly says.
