I pace back and forth in my room at the crack of dawn. I couldn't sleep at all last night. It wasn't for the coldness this time. I change into a black satin long-sleeved dress whose neckline went up to my collarbone. The skirt is full and thick. I left my hair down and put on heels. Lighting a candle, I sneak to the dungeon.
The candle didn't serve as a good light source, but it was good enough. I have no idea why I want to talk to them. I should be killing them! I see the guard that's on patrol is fast asleep. I grab the key from him and open the pathway to their cell.
The dungeon is darker and gloomier than the rest of the palace. I can hear the sound of water dripping and unknown echoes. The floor is dirty, the walls have moss, and vines are growing on it. I put my hand in front of the small fire to preserve it. I stand near the wooden door with metal bars on the bottom that allow the guards to give the prisoners food. I unlock the door and enter the stuffy cell.
The man and woman sit on opposite sides of the cell chained up to the wall. The woman looks up and gives me a smile of relief. "Ursula!" She shouts happily. I stare at her. "You're alright!" She goes to stand up, but the chains stop her.
"Of course, I'm all right. Why wouldn't I be?" I ask her.
"When we woke up, we noticed you were gone. The only thing we found was your sword on the ground. We thought Mason kidnapped you, so we came here to save you. Our suspicions were correct." She explains. I look at her curiously. "Why are you staring at me like that?" She asks.
"How do you know my name?" I question her.
She laughs as if I was joking. "You're joking, right?" She says, looking at me as if I was crazy. I look at her with a serious expression. She gasps. "What did they do to you?"
"They did nothing," I state. She looks me up and down.
"Why are you wearing black? You don't like anything that's not white." She says as if she knows me.
"You don't know me at all," I say, taking a step closer to her. I squat down to her level. "I am a huntress that kills shifters like you and your buddy over there," I tell her, glancing at the sleeping man.
"No, you're not." She claims. I raise an eyebrow.
"No?" I slowly repeat.
"You are not a huntress. You are a shifter, just like me. You are a Unicorn shifter." I stand up and walk away from her. "I know that Mason killed your family and species. You are the only Unicorn left!" She makes ludicrous remarks.
"No, Mason killed those Unicorns because they bewitched him and made him insane," I say, protecting Jace's father.
"Are you even listening to yourself! You speak of him as if he's a god!" She shouts.
"You shifters made Jace the man he is now. A sad, haunted man. I vow to kill you all and end his suffering." I open the door and lock it behind me as I exit.
"Ursula!" I hear her shout after me. I cover my ears and rush out of there. I drop the key on the floor next to the guard and run up the stairs. I open the door to my bedroom. I breathe slowly as I process what just happened. I fall to the floor due to my head thumping. I hold my head to stop the pain.
"I knew you would have visited them." I hear Lily say from behind me. I turn my head to look at her. I see her hand in a fist. "Jace trusted you too much. I knew it was way too early for you." She squeezes her fist, and the pain in my head increases. My vision starts to blur due to the pain. "I guess I have to redo the whole thing again," I shout in pain. I gain the strength to speak.
"Redo what?" I question her. I feel something powerful overtaking my body. I try my best to resist her.
"Nothing...just sleep, and this will be all over." She softly says. I start to cry involuntarily.
