Hello, everyone!
I hope you lot had a smashing day yesterday and I hope you love this chapter I've prepared.
Good job, everybody, and congrats to those of you who guessed what it is about Alex that Rose knows about and Lily doesn't.
I promised you would all find out today!
So read on.
Love you all,
Lily
Lily's POV:
"Hey, Lils."
I looked up, smiling, at Rose, who had just come down from our dormitory. It was nearly dark, and the sun was casting its last, most brilliant rays through the windows of the common room. "Hey, Rosie," I answered.
She sat down next to me. "So how are you, little girl?"
I grinned. "As annoyed as ever at that adjective, big bossy cousin."
She sighed. "Why Professor Slughorn had to assign us all an extra Potions assignment is beyond me, with Christmas and the Yule Ball just around the corner." She looked sharply at me. "Speaking of Potions, Scorp told me something about that Amortentia project you two were doing-"
"I don't want to talk about that," I interrupted.
I still remembered that day.
It hadn't been a happy one.
"Come on, Lils," Scorpius had grumbled, shoving the cauldron of Amortentia towards me. "I know you don't want to talk to me, but at least just smell the potion; you're supposed to make notes on it!"
"I CAN'T smell the potion," I had retorted. "You must be wearing that horrid cologne from your fourth year again; it's gumming up the whole smell!"
He had frowned. "I never wore that cologne after you teased me about it. You must be joking me around. Besides, I can't smell anything either. You've been greasing your broom again, haven't you?"
I had shaken my head. "You're delusional. Come on, now, what do you smell?"
"I told you, your stupid broom grease is mucking up the scent. What did you actually smell, Lily, my Quidditch robes or something?"
I had huffed and stomped off. But I hadn't been angry- I'd been scared.
I had smelled Scorpius Malfoy's stupid old cologne in Amortentia.
Had the world gone mad?
"I don't want to talk about that," I said to Rose, directing my wand at my quill and recommencing my hurried essay-writing for Professor Delarium, who taught Transfiguration.
"Listen- Lily," Rose said hesitantly, "there's something- something you should know about- about Alex."
"What?" I asked warily. Ever since the first task he had been almost distant. And I didn't understand why.
"Well, he- I guess- I guess I could show you."
Rose stood, and motioned for me to follow her up the stairs to our dormitories. She checked the wizarding watch she wore on her right arm. "It should be happening right about now..."
I looked out one of the windows at the grounds- and then saw what it was Rose had wanted to show me.
A figure was waiting underneath a tree- a figure that was tall and handsome and who wore a distinctly American baseball cap.
A slight figure came across the grounds towards the figure underneath the tree. She had long blonde hair that was nearly white and wore light blue Beauxbatons robes.
I paled. I knew who that was. I knew who both those people were.
How could he? I thought. He called me his princess just this morning. How could he do this?
Rose came to stand behind me at the window, and looked down at the two figures with disgust.
"She-" I coughed to clear my throat. "She said she wouldn't take him from me."
"I guess this isn't her idea of taking," Rose snapped as the two figures kissed. "Cheating behind your back evidently means you still have him."
"I'm going down." I stood up and stalked over to my trunk. I yanked out my invisibility cloak and my broomstick, which I'd never placed in the broom shed.
Rose shook her head. "Lily, that's not a good idea."
"I'm going."
"Fine." She shook her head. "But-"
"Don't say anything about your git boyfriend."
"Scorpius isn't a git, Lily. And actually- he isn't my boyfriend anymore."
I turned. "What?"
"We broke up this morning."
I shook my head, ignoring the strange elation I felt. "He's a git."
"He's not."
"Whatever. I'm going."
Rose turned away, and I had the strangest feeling she was hiding a smile. "Fine. But don't kill him, Lilybug."
"I can't guarantee that," I retorted, my voice clipped. And I threw open the window, tossing the Invisibility Cloak over myself and gliding away into the night.
I had a boyfriend to yell at.
***They were kissing again when I reached them.
It's a known fact that if you want to hear the truth, you never ask someone to tell it to you. So I hid in the tree they were underneath and listened.
They soon broke apart, and Gabrielle smiled at him. "I weesh we could do zis all the time."
"So do I. But- you know-"
"Leely?"
"Yes. I heard about something she did to a boy who tried to make a move on her when she didn't want it... I'm afraid if she knew about us..."
"You are wrong, Alex," Gabrielle protested. "Leely does not deserve this. 'iding what is true is always dishonorable."
"But..."
"Een fact, I do not want to continue zis until you tell 'er the truth. I should not 'ave been persuaded to do zis when I knew it was not right. It is hurtful to Leely. If you do not tell 'er, I will."
"Look, Gabrielle," Alex started, but he was cut off. I had heard enough. I flew down from the tree, and landed on the ground, pulling the Cloak off.
Gabrielle smiled nervously at seeing me. Alex flushed.
"Thanks, Gabrielle," I told my friend, "for saying that. I'm not mad at you because of it. But Alex-" I turned to him. "how could you? I would have broken up with you if you had said you wanted it- I guess you heard about what I did to that git, Lorcan?"
He nodded, his eyes wide. I rolled mine.
"For heaven's sake," I snapped, "stop looking like a deer about to be shot. I played a prank on Lorcan- I didn't kill him." I looked at him coldly. "But I'm never forgiving you for this. You can forget about an internship under my dad. That's the real reason you stayed on with me, isn't it?"
He opened his mouth soundlessly.
I nodded sadly. "That's what I thought."
I couldn't stay down there any longer. I flew back up to the dorms.
Once I was there, I flopped down onto my bed and started to cry.
