Chapter 17

Mercy

How long? How long hath I been here? I got passage on a ship few month after I abandoned my precious wife. I found myself some time later in the Far East. There I was but a ghost. Walking around this land called China with no purpose. I had no one, no goal, no life. I were an outsider in this land. Most people saw me for what I be. There saw me for a witch. True, I am still a witch but I also be a vampire. The witches here will not accept me. They cast me out when I came to them. From the people I hath learn their language, and I hath taken advantage of my abilities.

Due to my vampiric abilities I hath put myself out as an assassin and spy. I serve the emperor when he calls, and other noble families. I find that the emperor holds superstition close to him. He has a court full of fake magicians and tellers of what will be. He asks nothing of it when I desire my payment in gold and blood. His people believe some sort of nonsense about it. It matters not to me as long as I get my payment.

I hath no real home. I travel the land doing the dirty work of nobles. Making them pleased with death. I am only pleased with the work for I receive a meal. It still be very feudal here. The poor are at the mercy of the nobles. And now I go to serve another noble. I understand her name be Xi Yang. I hath heard that she be a ferocious warrior. A woman as a warrior be an inspiring thought. That be why I go to see for myself. I hath heard rumors that she be a vampire. My time with fate hath come.

I have not and will not forget my Jamie. The night I left her still burns within my brain every time I close my eyes. I see her tear stained face, and it has haunted me ever since. I still hath the wooden ring she made for me. I hope one day I shall be able to give her one of gold. That be if she desires me. I will amass my fortune. When it be done I shall give it all to her. Everything that I will ever earn shall be hers without question... I know it has struck a blow at her kind heart, but I do hope one day that she will see that I did this all for her. If she still cannot then I shall convince her. I will beg her to reconsider me. As for Saryia I know not. If Jamie does not wish for me then I shall allow myself willingly into Saryia's hands. She can do with me as she wishes. If Jamie will not have me then there is no more hope for me.

"Hey you! Stop!" I hear someone yell in Chinese. I look and see two guards. I remove my hood.

"Am I in Xi Yang's territory? She seeks audience with me." The stake at each other then come closer.

"Are you The Fiery Maiden?" I nod. It is the name I hath been given due to my hair I suppose. They come to my sides and escort me. After a while we come up to a grand noble house hold. Already I could smell many vampires. This has to be an important coven of sorts. The men usher in the front gates. The house stands high with red and black being its main colors. Horses, soldiers, humans, and vampires walk about the front yard. The humans are barely wearing rags. Most have chains around their necks and the same brand on their shoulder. I also take note that some are not from China. The women in particular look from other countries. Some are Chinese, but others look as if they be from Europe.

The vampires begin to stare at me. They all wear noble clothes made from the finest silk no doubt. Bright colors and beautiful patterns cover them. What I wear be fitting for my profession. Nothing truly elaborate about them. The only thing of import would be the cloak I have. It be red with a ferocious looking dragon on it. Another possibility where my name around here originates. As I am taken into the house I see many more vampires. This must be a very royal coven. I hath come across some coven, but they were all small. They would speak highly of Xi Yang and her coven. Now I must meet this mysterious woman. As we get into the main area where the most vampires be I see a beautiful woman. She sits on a throne with black armor. A dragon can be vividly seem. She hath beautifully striking features with very black hair and deep dark eyes. As I get closer I can she her looking at me as well. When I stop at the foot on the stairs I bow my head.
