Saryia
"Having committed the crime of witchcraft... Allen Collins, Joseph Baker, Sarah Till, Sarah Sullivan, Jamie Himmel Danforth, Saryia Blume Hawthorne, Mark Proctor, Bessie Adams are from this church with all its blessings here by excommunicate and sentenced to death by hanging." The sentence of death hath not stop ringing within my ears. This be a death that neither I nor my beloved dear friend Himmel deserve. We hath said it from the start that we were innocent women, yet the world hath turn their back on truth. They hath turn their back on us, their own, their people, their family.
There be no greater pain that hath stung my heart than this. Even in this chaos, there be no greater pain than to see Himmel break down at the sentence of death. Her lover, her precious Mercy sat there with her folks like the living dead. She made not one move, the only thing that showed she still lived was the crystal tear that ran down her face. The priest daughter smiles at me when she hear I am to hang because of her lie. And my dear sister, the only reason I stay strong is for Himmel, yet sitting here in this barn with other women and men, I see old grim coaxing me with boney hand. The clock of time ticks closer to my hour. 19, I never lived. Himmel, 18 she is still a babe to the world.
Ten days hath gone by since our sentence to the rope. I, Goody Nurse, and Himmel are to be hanged with the come of morning. I had no sleep this night, some due to Himmel crying next to me. Her wail finally gotten to my weakened state.
"Jamie... Himmel!" I stare over at her. Her tired dark blue eyes gaze back into mine.
"What do you want from me Blume! I hath no more reason to live! They should just kill me now! I rather have a bullet take my life than to stand on the scaffold and let my love watch me die!" No matter if my hands are bound I slap Himmel across her face.
"Peace child! Give them no tear! Let a stony heart beat within thy chest in thee last moments on this cursed Earth!" With limited ability I take her face within my palms. Doing all I can I dry the tears that fall furiously down my dear's face. Tears from beforehand hath left stain on Himmel's face.
"Peace Himmel. There is no need to weep for the dead. They are better off than the living."
"Ha stupid girl!" Tituba shouts from her place, "You should have done like Tituba and confess. You'd only be sitting here for some time. Stupid girl will hang and Tituba will be living!"
"I will not sign myself to lies!" I yell back at the disturbed woman. Abigail Williams turned most of us in, her servant Tituba was the first. She hath been sitting here for a year. All that be left of Tituba hath left out the door long time ago. The people beyond and some in this barn been calling her witch, now she believe them. Tituba laughs hysterically.
"I pray to Devil for you two. He will spare you, he take you high up in the air with me and take us flying to Barbados!"
"Be quiet woman! You know not what you speak!" Goody Nurse laughs to herself then looks over at Himmel and I.
"Who in here knows what we speak now?" The old woman shakes her head, "The world in here is heaven compared to the world out there. Those who still believe in the holy father and know their innocence are before us now Saryia. This be the face that be hidden in here, out there you are what they want you to be." Goody Nurse scoots herself over to Himmel and I. Himmel bury herself in my breast.
"The Father up high calls us all now. When we leave our world here, and you step out there remember who thou are young children. God will open his arms for you when you enter the kingdom." The door opens and Himmel tries to back herself into the corner.
"Nay, nay! I'm innocent!" She screams, the jailer drags her out anyway. I go out without a fight. I've been in that dark hell for so long I hath forgotten what the sun is. Tis bright and mocking, it shines down on my death. Himmel puts her arm up to shield her eyes. The jailer takes my and Himmel's shoulders and leads us on to the cart. He chains us then helps Goody Nurse up and gently chains her. No matter how gentle they may be the irons have cut into our wrist. Himmel looks up at me, worry fills her soft eyes.
I move closer to her to comfort her. I know Mercy will be here, why would she not? This is the love of her life, and we were all planning to make haste for England. Now all the dreams will be shattered with a single rope. Himmel rest her messy dirty blonde head on my shoulder. Her bonnet was torn and long since a rag upon her head. Mine is the same.
"Blume, I'm so frightened." I look down at my sweet little sister then rest my head on hers.
"And I, but show them this not. Our suffering will end soon." The jailer and marshal make the cart move. Now we ride to death. Himmel begins to tremble, there is not much I can do to help her. The bump filled road soon came upon the people of Salem. Most hath seen the error of Judge Hawthorne and Judge Danforth. These men were our kin to an extent, but they still send us to hang. So much for family. Himmel begins to sob when the scaffold comes into sight. Three nooses wait for their next victims to come. It sways in the morning wind mocking us so.
I take a glance over to the right and see my parents. Mother weeps for me, Father can only look on as his only living child goes to join the rest. I am the seventh child. All the others died in birth. Himmel is the fourth child. All of her siblings died as well.
Oh what despair I hath thrust upon such joyful souls. Now doleful and grief stricken my parents follow the crowd to Grim's abode of unjust death. Himmel's mother clings onto mine for support. Like us they were babes together. They watched as their own babes grew together, now they will watch us die together. As if the world seized to rotate the cart stops in front of the scaffold. Himmel begins to panic, she clutches my arm.
"Blume! What shall we do!" The Marshal takes Goody Nurse out her chains and lines her in front of the noose.
"What can we do?" Then Marshal and a guard rush up to separate Himmel and I. Himmel screams for me, she pleas for the guard to release her, but he harbors not an ounce of pity in his heart. The Marshal takes me up the steps to my death. Facing the rope I see my end coming closer. I weep not so much for myself, but for Himmel and the widow she will leave behind. Mercy stands in the front with our parents. Tears spill endlessly down her fair cheeks to the ground that will soon be my new home. Newlyweds in secret that will never have their first night together. I there only witness be now one among many that be witness to their marriage vows broken.
"Look away, hide your face my dear." Himmel chokes on her tears, "Look not when they push me to my death." Mercy begins to weep more at Himmel's final wish. Finally after a moment the Marshal starts to put the ropes around our necks. Himmel begins to cry harder, her wails strike me with more sorrow.
"Oh man. Give a dead woman her final wish." I held my hand out, "Tie my hand with hers. I beg thee please." The marshal's hard eyes shatter with pity. He takes my hand and binds it with Himmel's. She grasps at my shaking hand tightly. We stare at eachother without word, but at last I spoke my final thoughts.
"I love you Himmel." More tears fall from her dark blue eyes.
"And I love you Blume." We hear the crowd gasp. Goody Nurse now dangles from the rope. Poor Mr. Nurse watches his love die. The boots of the Marshal come towards us again. He leans over to us in a hushed whisper.
"Forgive us for murdering you pure souls." With a mighty push of his hands Himmel and I fall. Last thing I heard was Mercy's wail of pain. Life seeps from my body with each passing second. My soul begins to fly away. At the same time so does Himmel's.
Our names were Saryia Blume Hawthorne and Jamie Himmel Danforth. We were the victims of the Salem Witch Trails. Will our story be told? Will any one remember us? Only the powerful hands of time will tell...
A/N: Hello readers! This is it. This is the last book of The Master's Pet series! I thought the day would never come but here it is. I have some conditions with this book. One, give me time to update. I just started college so there will be times when I can't update. Two, I want you all to comment since this is the finale of the series. Three, enjoy this as much as I will. I hope you all remember some things from the earlier books cause some of it will show up in here. I already know some of you will have different feelings for some of the characters by the time this book is over. Just a fair warning this book will probably be the longest out of the series. I hope you all enjoy and I'll see you later. Comment Vote Peace :)
