outside sky media
yn
Six-fifty-three, Thursday December thirty-first, twenty-sixteen.

And as it always does when something is going well, the unthinkable happened.

He and I were standing outside as the sky around us was just beginning to darken and cars were just beginning to turn up and a quick glance towards the parking lot told me Adam, Ross, Tim and Emily were already here based on the cars in the parkway.

I turned back to see Max with a look of confusion smeared across his face.

"Wha-?"

"Shh," He hissed, tilting his head towards the ground, "listen."

I quieted down and did as he said. Surely enough there it was, a low rumbling sound was humming through the air, a few cracks sounded from the sky and with one last groan-

it became deafening.

the sound of dozens of wood beams splitting and twenties of tiles breaking and sealing tearing and falling and landing in a heap with one last echoing Boom. The force of it shaking the ground and throwing Max and I onto our back and kicking up dust and wood and when I looked up slack-jawed all I saw was-

well all I saw was the roof of the sky media offices on the ground in front of us.

it had collapsed, the roof had collapsed.

I felt hands all over me and a distant voice was talking, I snapped out of my daze to see Max's concerned eyes looking into mine, I shook my head.

"What?" I asked,

"Are you okay? Are you hurt?" He asked his own questions. I looked down at my legs and placed my hands on the ground, standing up and dusting myself off.

"Y-yeah I'm okay, are you?" I asked,

"Yeah-" He said, standing up himself. I realized it wasn't the force of the collapsing roof that had pulled me from the potential danger it had been Max, making sure the two of us weren't killed. Boy I was sure glad he did that too because there was a piece off roofing right where we had just been standing.

"Oh no," I muttered to myself, bringing a shaky hand up to cover my mouth in disbelief. I felt Max's hand grab mine firmly. I turned to look at him.

"Stay here," He said in a low voice, he gave my hand one last reassuring squeeze and let go. I found myself unable to speak, (I was in shock) I realized I had been in shock, and I stood watching as Max stepped over a fallen wooden beam and ducked into the doorway, which was still standing.

The building was still standing, most of it anyway, the only part that seemed to of been affected was the reception office. I heard distant yelling and turned to see Red, running towards the building. He arrived at me not shortly after and started grilling me with questions.

"What HAPPENED?" He asked, I just shrugged, staring into the debris.

"Are you okay? Is anyone hurt?" He asked, I shrugged again.

"Who's here?"

"Max, Adam, Ross and Tim, Emily.." I trailed off, listing them on my fingers. from within the wreck I heard voices and sighed a little, happy Max found someone okay.

"Jesus Christ," Red huffed as he pulled out his phone, I watched him as he dialed 911 and listened as he told them the situation, unable to tear my eyes from the disaster. The two voices were getting louder now, enough so I could tell it was Max and Adam, and enough so to know they were right behind the mess.

And that's when I heard something else.

"Gahhhh" Came the disembodied voice of a woman, filled to the brim with pain and disconcertedness.

and again, "Ahhhhghhh" it rang out like a gunshot, clear as day. The two voices started getting farther away and I guess I was the only one paying attention to the cries of distress but I was paralyzed with fear goddamn it and my anxiety was wracking through my body and all I could think of was death and car crashes and death and buildings collapsing and all I could think of was death.

Until I moved a foot forwards, and another, and despite my thoughts being clouded with everything I was afraid of, I pinched my wrist and stepped inside the wreck.

"Gaaaahghhghghhhh" It came again, followed by what sounded like tears and uneven breaths.

"Emily?" I called out, after a second she replied.

"Yeah, (y/n) I'm.. uuughhhhhhhhhhh, I'm over here please-"

"I'm coming" I said, forcing my feet to step over shards of roofing and splits of wooden beams. I followed her noises of pain to where the reception counter would have been.

"(y/n) I- My leg- oh my fucking hell." She muttered, I climbed over a fallen post and made my way still to the reception desk, where Emily was hidden underneath.

"Are you okay?" I asked,

"No I- I felt the roof starting to fall so I ducked under here and ahh fuck-" She started, "I tried to pull my leg under in time but a sharp piece of wood hit it and then another beam landed on that and now its fuckin' right through my leg." She called to me, her voice was ragged and she was fighting the pain.

I overcame a part of roofing and finally got to the reception desk, where after a second of searching with my eyes I found her leg, surrounded by a pool of blood. I kneeled down and saw her under the table, sweating and crying. "fucking HELL" She whisper-screamed.

"Look, Emily the police are coming, you're going to be okay, okay?" I reassured her, she gave a nodding of understanding against the pain. I heard voices outside, which must have been other workers showing up, I crawled under the desk with Emily and sat next to he, wrapping my arm around her shoulder and tried to console her while we waited for the police.

She was rushed to the ER and operated on immediately, a solid three hours later she was stable, alive and asleep. Her boyfriend showed up and the rest of us went home. I invited Max and Red over for a little while since Max drove me home and Red didn't have any plans, the two of them complied and we headed over to my house, where I was thankful for Max, and for how he kept me alive.

Not just by pushing me out of the way, but by keeping me sane and happy and alive, and I guess it was then that I came to the realization that I loved him,

"Max I-" I said, as the three of us were sitting on the couch. I mean I didn't intend on telling him that but in the moment, my words were already forming and there was no way to stop them.

"Max, there's something I need to tell you." I said,

(I loved him)

Author's note

Hey everyone :D So here's this chapter, look at me it's even an hour early! So yeah, the unthinkable was that the roof caved in and a pole went through Emily's leg, isn't that pretty unthinkable? Sorry about the lack of romantic gestures in this one, (Although, Max did totally just save your life i'd call that pretty romantic PLUS you decided you love him soooooouuuu, I guess it was pretty romancy,) I promise the next one will have a lot more Max and a lot more of what you fangirls need to survive xD Tell me what you thought about this chapter? Btw it's real important to the storyline so that's that,

A few chapters back, Max realized he loved you, and now you realize it, what do you think will happen? Do you tell him in front of Red? Do you tell him at all? What do ya'll think is going to happen? Also 2.3K reads omfg, you guys are legit the best!!

Peace out, lovelies :D
