Reminiscence

(Willow's POV)

I can't believe I broke down like that earlier. I made a promise to myself that I wouldn't cry in front of anyone ever. That defiantly won't happen again. I had a rough childhood, OK, so I am determined to not be weak like I was then, and if you say that I'm acting like an Ares kid, I will personally make your death a particularly painful one.

Anyway, I will hate the kid who decided to sneeze for the rest of eternity. The thing on top of the roof roared and I saw claws ripping through the roof. Everybody screamed, and I sighed, then I saw its head.

"Everybody out!" I yelled and all of the kids that were in the Athena cabin trampled each other on their way out.

I was soon the only one in the cabin, so I twisted the ring on my thumb and my sword appeared in my hand. I ran out of the cabin and saw the monster.

"Oh great, giant fish people with fangs, just makes my day." I muttered under my breath. "HEY FISH FINGERS!" I yelled to the fish thing.

It turned and made a horrible gurgling and hissing noise. I ran toward it with my sword pointed at its chest.

"Willow!" Alleya called, "What are you doing?!"

"Saving your butts! Are you gonna help?" I yelled back, not breaking stride.

"Fine..." Alleya said and I grinned as I used the creature's leg as a springboard and jumped onto its shoulder.

It hissed again and tried to buck me off, I dug my sword into its shoulder to hang on and it roared and screamed and made a spitting noise. Something bronze flew through the air and embedded itself in the creature's chest, Alleya's throwing knives. I had just enough time to jump off of the beast to avoid plummeting to my death. I rolled on the ground and came up in a sitting position.

"Willow, are you all right?" Nico asked me, kneeling beside me.

"I'm fine, but covered in monster dust." I said.

He laughed, "Leave it to you to make a joke right after you saved the camp."

"I did nothing, it was all Alleya." I said.

"Nothing? You were amazingly brave!" Alleya said.

"No," I said wearily, "just incredibly stupid."

I walked over to my sword and picked it up, wiped off the monster slime and transformed it back into a ring.

I'm sure you want to know about why my childhood was so rough, and I suppose that I have to tell you.

(Flashback)

I was walking home from school, I was gonna go shopping with my friends later, so I was going to change out of my uniform and into some cooler clothes. I was the prettiest girl in the school, and I 'enhanced' my beauty with makeup. I opened the front door of my house to my step-dad, his eyes bloodshot. He was drunk again. He was bending over my stepsister, she had bite marks on the side of her neck.

"Jack!" I screamed.

"Hello Willow," he said, his voice made weird by the fangs in his mouth.

Wait. Fangs?! "Jack?" I repeated.

"Yes, Will?" he asked.

"What are you?"

"I'm a vrykólakas," he said.

Cue me screaming and running away. That's exactly what I did.

Months later I was found by Grover, who was looking around for kids like me. He brought me to camp and that's where I met Alleya and Genesis.

Everyone thought that I was a daughter of Aphrodite, due to me being so pretty, I know that I sound vain and self-centered. I took an interest in knife throwing and sword fighting, but no one took me seriously because they thought I was a daughter of Aphrodite. I grew sick of it and prayed to my godly parent to claim me. While I waited I never wore makeup, and had my hair long with tiny braids mixed into it, due to my ADHD. When I turned 14 Poseidon claimed me.

That's the end of my story, so far.
