He wandered into my room very early the next morning; it must have been only 6 or 7am.

“Jetlagged?”

“Yep! Better get used to it I suppose.” My parents were up and about, so they knew that he hadn’t snuck into my room in the night and they were okay with him coming in now.

“What time do you have to get to the airport?” I asked. Luke was heading to Ireland today as they had another show tonight.

“About 1,” I sighed. We didn’t have that much longer together before I had to say goodbye. That was going to be hard. We were only just starting our relationship and wanted to spend all day everyday together, but I knew this was all part of him being famous. He had to go and finish his tour and if our relationship was going to last we had to accept this. We laid in bed, Luke with his arm around my waist, pulling me closer to him and occasionally kissing my cheek, and me with my head resting on his bare chest. We ended up falling asleep in this position for another few hours, and as I stirred, Luke kissed the top of my head and held me tight. He knew me too well already.

“How long have you been awake for?”

“Oh not long, maybe 10 or 15 minutes,” I could tell that he was lying because he didn’t look sleepy at all.

“Why didn’t you wake me?”

“You looked too cute and comfortable to move,” he was right. His big masculine body surrounding mine comforted me; it made me feel safe.

When it got to 10am, we eventually got up. I helped Luke pack up his stuff, although there wasn’t much to pack, and we headed down for breakfast. My mum was in the kitchen cooking bacon, sausages and croissants, and asked us if we wanted anything. We stuffed our faces until it didn’t feel possible to eat anymore, and went to go and get dressed. The airport was just over an hour from my house, so we had to leave at about 11:30. We chilled out for the final hour we had together at home, lying side by side on the sofa, watching crap on TV and snuggling.

“I love you Skyler,” Luke blurted out. Although we were technically a couple, it took me by surprise. I smiled.

“I love you too silly.” He bit his lip ring before giving me a quick kiss.

“Come on guys, time to go,” dad shouted from the other room. Luke ran up the stairs to collect his overnight bag and shoes. He took my hand and walked to the car. He didn’t let go of my hand the whole way. I could tell that that was his way of showing that he didn’t want to go, being a boy he wasn’t very good at showing his emotions. I sat with my head up against his shoulder holding myself in as tight as possible. I never wanted to let go. I could easily say that that was one of the quietest car journeys I have ever experienced. No one quite knew what to say. Despite the silence, I never wanted the journey to end. I didn’t want him to leave my side.

We arrived at the airport and my dad waited in the car while I went with Luke to departures. He stayed with me right until the final calling for his gate, and then he really had to go. This was going to be the hardest moment of my life; I just couldn’t bear to leave him.

“Flight XU567B to Dublin, final calling to gate 6,” he had to go. The gate shut in 15 minutes. I threw my arms around him.

“I’m going to miss you Lukey,” and with that I burst into tears.

“Don’t cry gorgeous, I’m going to miss you too, more than you’ll ever know. I’ll be back in two weeks and I’ll talk to you everyday without fail,” I knew he was trying to comfort me but this just made me cry more. Two weeks was such a long time to be away.

“Everyday without fail, you wont be able to get away from me,” I joked to try and lighten the mood and cheer myself up.

“Good,” I could see he was getting teary eyed too. He put his hand around the side of my face and used his thumb to wipe away my tears. As he did this, I saw a few escape from his eyes, so I did the same. He gave a watery chuckle and smile.

“Come on you better get going. You don’t want to miss your flight,” I said and with that he gave me a kiss, one that meant more than any of our others. It was like we were trying to memorise the feeling and savour that last moment together.

“I love you,” he whispered in my ear

“And I love you too.” I walked him over to the gate door and watched him walk through. He turned around and blew me a kiss but before I could return it, he was out of site. Walking alone through the crowded airport with tears streaming down my face I was getting stares from strangers all around me, but right at that moment in time, I didn’t care. I got back into the car, this time in the front seat and didn’t say a word. I saw my dad look over at me but he could see how upset I was, so he left me be. I cried the whole way home. I checked my phone every five minutes to see if I had got a message from Luke, even though in my heart I knew he wouldn’t have landed yet.

“Cheer up sweetie,” my dad finally broke the silence. I just nodded and gave a little smile but he knew it wasn’t going to make a difference.
