Nothing could prepare for what was about to come. I had never experienced anything like it in my life. Everything between Luke and I had been perfect, almost too perfect to be true, and it seemed that it was. Everyone was out and Luke had popped to the shop to go and get us some lunch, but I was still lying in bed so decided to stay at home. I wasn’t feeling one hundred percent myself; I wasn’t ill but I didn’t feel right, so although it was already gone midday, I was still sat up in bed, in my ‘pajamas’ and watching gossip girl on Netflix on Luke’s laptop. I heard the doorbell ring, so expecting it to be Luke back with some crazy or amazing lunch for us, I ran down in his tracksuit bottoms, a baggy shirt and my hair in a lopsided bun. I excitedly opened the door, my stomach rumbling as it became aware I hadn’t eaten at all yet and now felt very hungry, but nothing could prepare me for what I was about to discover.  Standing in the doorway was not Luke but a woman, around the age of nineteen or twenty I would imagine, holding an overnight back by her side.

“Is Luke in?” she said before I could even ask her who she was or what she was doing here.

“Not at the moment. Who are you exactly?” I asked, perhaps slightly rudely but at that moment, I didn’t care.

“I’ll wait inside then for him to get back. I’m his girlfriend.” I felt like I could faint. I felt sick to the bottom of my stomach.

“His what?” I almost shouted in her face.

“Girlfriend,” she grinned, “I’ve been away with work for the past six months.” I was fuming but this girl pushed her way past me and made herself quite comfortable in his front room, putting her bag at the bottom of the stairs as if she was staying.

“Please excuse me for a minute,” I said whilst running up the stairs back to ‘our’ room. Luke was in for one heck of a surprise when he got home that’s for sure. I picked up my mobile from the bedside table and dialed Luke’s number.

“Hey gorgeous,” he said, making me feel sicker than I already felt, “did you want something?” I couldn’t get my words out.

“Hello,” he said again, “Sky, are you there?”

“Yeah sorry. I was just wondering where you were, I’m starving,” I lied. I couldn’t do this over the phone.

“I’m literally just coming down the road.” Oh how I couldn’t wait for him to get back.

Moments later the front door opened and I rushed back down the stairs at break neck speed.

“Baby,” he said as he threw his arm around me, “in a rush?” he chuckled, soon to be cut short as he caught sight of the body sat on his sofa.

“Laura?” he said, “What are you doing here?”

“Think you’ve got some explaining to do,” Laura and I said in unison. Luke looked flustered. I felt myself go red as the anger built up inside of me.

“Care to explain?” I said through gritted teeth. Laura was still stupidly grinning on the sofa, almost as if she was waiting for Luke to scoop her up and welcome her home.

“There’s nothing to explain. I’m Luke’s girlfriend, Laura. I had to go to Perth for work for six months, I’m a freelance makeup artist you see, and I had a major shoot to do, and now I’m home so I came to surprise my gorgeous boyfriend, who I had missed very dearly,” she said, getting up off the sofa and walking towards Luke.

“Oh have you now. Seems you’ve forgotten to tell me something Luke,” I was ready to explode.

“Laura, if you don’t mind, could you give us a minute?” I said, and kindly enough she was willing to give up her beloved boyfriend.
