Jiyuu's POV

I scraped the wall with a sharp rock, a line becoming visible as I did. Another tally marking my day.

Eighteen tallies on the wall.

Eighteen days of misery.

I lay on the ground, shackles clinking in the process.

The steel railings of the cell opened, and in came Kyoutani, a dagger in hand.

Without another word, he slapped, kicked and punched me, occasionally slicing my skin with the dagger infused with an unfamiliar chemical that made my skin burn.

I writhed and screamed in agony through the torture.

I must endure it. I must endure it. I must live another day.

Finally, he left me, footsteps echoing. The rails slammed shut, and I was left in the cold, weak and helpless.

Tears fell from my eyes, as I tried to fall into a restless slumber, a new nightmare being etched in my mind.
---------

The dungeon is noisier then usual.

The sound of metal against metal, shouts and cries. It pierced my ears.

"Give it up already!"

I heard a thud. Then the sound of a blade piercing flesh. Two more thuds followed.

Then, I heard footsteps. Hurried footsteps. Quickened breaths.

A voice, so familiar.

"Jiyuu!"

My eyes turned to him, weakly, and I managed a small smile. I called his name with difficulty.

"Ka...ge...ya..ma."

The azure eyes that I missed, the raven locks I longed for, the rare smile I wanted, it was here.

The man I longed to see.

He's here for me.

"You're going to be free." he said, drawing his sword out of his scabbard.

My eyes caught a hint of chocolate brown behind him, a mischievous color.

"Behind you!" I yelled

I was too late.

The turquiose clad king opened the cell and shoved his cousin in the prison, while I watched in horror.

I saw Kageyama's sword fall to the ground, and I heard squeak of rails' closing.

"Ah, love." Oikawa said, a sinister smile on his face.

His laugh echoed as he went away, and Kageyama clenched his fists in anger.

"Are you alright?" I asked.

He nodded, and turned to me, eyes filled with concern.

"I must be the one asking that question." he said, eyeing my bruises and wounds.
"I'm alright." I said.

The silence between us was deafening, neither of us speaking.

Finally, I spoke, wanting an answer to this question I had in my heart for weeks.

"Why did you come back for me?"

He widened his eyes, looking shocked.

"I.. What do you mean?" he asked.
"You sent me here, right?" I said.

He looked confused now. My mind was a mess with his reaction.

For a few moments, silence reigned between us.

That's when I knew.

Oikawa planned this all.

Kageyama never sent me here. Everything was an intricate, complicated lie.

I was suddenly pulled close to his chest. I caught a whiff of his scent, a mix of perfume, blood and sweat. I felt the beating of his heart, quick.

"I would never send you here." he said.

Why was he acting like this? Acting so strangely, so out of character... Why?

Why would he act like this?

Why is heart beating so fast?

Is he lying?

"Prove it to me. That you don't have the heart to send me here." I said, voice muffled by his embrace.

He broke the embrace, and looked deep into my eyes. He smiled, which made my heart flutter.

"Is the fact that I'm in love with you count as proof?"

Time stopped.

He... He's...

He's in love with me.

He's in love with me, a Mahika.

He's in love with me, a wounded girl, inprisoned in enemy territory.

He's in love with me.

I think my heart skipped a beat.

"Why?" I asked.

Why me, of all people? Why me?

There are people more suited for him, Maharlika more beautiful than me.

Why love a lowly Mahika?

"Your eyes, are the most beautiful eyes I have ever seen. I can see everything in your eyes, they tell the truth. They tell everything about you. They tell that you are genuine and trustworthy. That's why.. I fell in love."

Thump. Thump. My heart is beating uncontrollably, my cheeks burning with red.

His face was of the same hue, red, as he told me the reason why he loved me.

I bet his heart is beating wild too.

"Close your eyes." I mumbled.

He looked confused, but he did anyway.

I propped myself up on one arm, and inched closer to him, shackles clinking as I did so.

So close.

My heart is beating wild.

Closer.

My face exploded in a blush.

Closer.

Centimeters apart. Still, I move closer.

Butterflies erupted in my stomach.

Our lips touched.

I couldn't put in words how much I loved him. I can say I loved his azure eyes, how they shined in the light. I can say I loved his annoying demeanor, how it brought me closer to him.

But it was never enough.

The feeling of bliss coarsed into my veins, warmth surged inside of me. This kiss... was the best moment of my life.

I never wanted this moment to end.

I broke off, looked into his eyes, a heavy blush coating my cheeks.

"What do you see in my eyes?" I asked.

He held my shackled hand, a smile gracing his lips.

"Love."
