A sound
Growing ever stronger
Heart beating ever faster
Arms lifting higher
Air sweeping my hair
Clean, wet, foresty smell in my face
I hear your watery depths
And rustling trees
And I raise my arms
In my final goodbye
And I lift my heels
Ever so slightly
Leaning forward
Breath catching
First tear falling
Stomach lurching
And it is as though someone has hit the fast forward button
And I fall quickly
No blood
No mess
And I see the beauty for all it is
Beauty
And I close my eyes
A sigh escaping my lips
A tear sparkling on my cheek
As I finish it
My first and final flight
And I hit the cold, murky water with a thud
I hear bones shatter and snap
And the pain comes in thick waves
And I can't scream
So I whimper so, so quietly
As the waves that sounded so enticing
Carry my broken body down further
I take deep, burning breaths
And let my eyes open
Reveling in the glory underwater
The glory that promised to end my pain
Before sinking into the eternal darkness
Death
