She quietly crept up the first set of stairs. Trying not to wake anyone up, Emily walked on her tip toes. The cool wooden floors creaked a little here and there. She was almost to the stairs that led to her room, but first had to pass Matt's room. Usually, he would wake up to get some sort of snack, and then fall back asleep. Apparently, he decided to break his typical routine today.

As she placed her foot on the ground cautiously, a loud creaking sound came from the floors. "Great!" Emily whispered sarcastically to herself. Matt swiftly opened his door, somehow he did so quietly. He had an angry look on his face, and motioned for her to come in. Reluctantly, the stubborn girl tip-toed into his room. She attempted to navigate around all of the clutter on the ground, but with the only light coming from the moon shining through the windows, it was a difficult process.

"Ouch!" She yelped,  stepping on some foreign object.

Matt shut the door, to try and keep from waking anyone else in the house. "What?"

"Your room is a mess. I just stepped on God knows what!"

"Keep your voice down!"

"What did you drag me in here for?"

"To ask you why Sam was here this morning."

"We went running, and then he came inside to eat something a little after. Why do you care?"

"Because, you should be careful. You don't even know him."

"What's he going to do? Kidnap me?" She responded, sarcastically.

"All I'm saying is that I don't think you should be alone with him."

"He hasn't done anything wrong. What do you have against him?"

"Nothing! I just don't think you should be around him."

"Well, I'm going out with him tonight, so I guess you will just have to deal."

"There is no way in hell that is happening."

"Last time I checked, you weren't the boss of me."

"Last time I checked, you are my little sister, and it's my job to look out for you."

"I didn't ask for that. I'm not a little girl Matt. I'm almost sixteen."

"I know you're not a little girl."

"Then stop treating me like one!" She interrupted.

"It's my responsibility to protect you! If I think you shouldn't see someone, then you won't!"

"Why the hell are you acting like you're my father? You're my brother, and you aren't an adult either."

"I'm older than you, and I'm not going to let you screw up your life!"

"Screw up my life? How is one date going to possibly going to screw up my life? God, you are so melodramatic!" Emily yelled, reaching for the door handle.

She stormed out of Matt's room and up to her own. He can't be serious! He freaks out over the smallest things. Who does he think he is? Emily walked over to her bed and buried her face in one of the pillows laying on it. "AHHHHH!" She screamed into the pillow and kicked her legs against the bed.

Emily flipped over onto her back and stared up at the ceiling, letting out an exasperated breath. Hopefully she hadn't woken up everyone, and if she had, they had fallen back asleep. Lazily, she got up and walked over to a box of books she had packed up. She began to organize them by genre on her bookshelf. As she grabbed one book, the title caught her eye, Fahrenheit 451 . Emily loved practically any book she could get her hands on, and that had to be one of her favorites. The suspense of the novel is what she liked the most about the book in particular. She grabbed it and set it down on her bed, planning to read once she showered off from her morning run.

The steam from the shower filled the bathroom and the mirror fogged up. A soft knock interrupted Emily from shampooing her hair. "Who is it?"

"It's mom. We have company coming over for dinner tonight. Matt said you had plans. I'm really sorry, but you will have to make them for another time, sweetie."

"Seriously?" Emily asked, through the door.

"I know, I'm sorry. It's very spur of the moment, but I promise you will have a good time."

"Okay." She responded sadly.

After she was all clean, Emily stepped out of the shower and dried off. Once she threw on some jean shorts and a flowy, white tank top with a camisole underneath it, she decided to call Sam. As she pulled out her phone she realized she didn't have his number. "Idiot!" She said as smacked her forehead.

Emily  went downstairs trying her best to be quiet, and avoid Matt. Carefully, she walked down the stairs and towards the front door. Just as she was about to open it, there was a knock at the door. "Who is it?"

"It's me, Sam." She unlocked and opened the door, letting Sam in.

"I was just about to go over to see you."

"Really? What for?"

"DEEZ NUTS."
