Chapter 14
Muggle Funeral

Draco couldn't get himself to send his mother a letter whether he's coming or not. He wasn't even a hundred percent sure if they're going till Hermione packed his bag. He was lying upside down on the couch watching television when she walked in and put his bags on the table.

"It's today?" he grunted.

"Mhm." Hermione said as she helped him get up and to get him dressed. She knew that she was treating him like a child, but Draco was really not in a mood to act all tough that day.

He'd been doing great this past week, but then the day of the funeral he broke. It's like the world came down crashing on him suddenly. Hermione undressed him slowly and got him in the shower. He's barely said any words all morning, so she made sure to talk to him but not annoy him.

When she couldn't reach his hair, he sat on the edge of the bathtub so she can wash it for him but he winced the moment he sat down.

"What's wrong, Draco?"

"Nothing, the cold just surprised me." His face was twisted and his eyes shut.

Hermione pressed her lips to the back of his neck, holding back her own tears. "You know we can stay here." She was bent over now, resting her head on his shoulder to look at him.

He nodded his head agressivly, not daring to let the tears out. His knuckles had turned white by his strong grip on the bathtub.

"Do you want me to turn on the water?" She knew then he'd be able to cry without showing it.

"Can you come in here?" Draco asked her as he slipped down. His back burnt as he slid down but he didn't care. Everything felt numb.

Hermione hesitated for a second before taking off her clothes and sitting down next to him. The water was pouring over them as they sat there side by side, their silence speaking a thousand words. She then grabbed him in her arms and hugged him tight to her.

"Are you trying to seduce me, Granger?" He smiled into her neck.

"No love, no. I just wanted to hold you."

"I love when you hold me."

"Well I love you. And I love holding you."

"Thank you Hermione, for everything." Those words struck way deeper than any love declaration. "I'm so lucky to have you. I'm going to protect you just like you're protecting me now. I promise."

A few hours later, Narcissa found her sister with baby Teddy on the latter's waist at her doorstep. However, behind them stood Molly and Arthur with their family.

Narcissa would be lying if she said her life as a Malfoy has always been horrible. She remembered every single day they've had together. But the ones she remembered most clearly were the days that made a drastic change in her life.

The day they met.

The moment she let in the group of people, condolences and hugs were exchanged. Even though she knew that Molly and Arthur were likely to show up, she couldn't help her heart from swelling up with so much love for this family. Their sons were following them, one of which accompanied a beautiful blonde woman. She recognized one of the twins, he was missing an ear. She couldn't help thinking whether her life would've been any different had they been the kind of people she had supporting her back then.

Maybe instead of making their lives hell, they would've been able to get her out of the disaster she called a family.

The day they went on their first date.
