I wish we would just give up
Cause the best part is falling.
Call it anything but love.

And I will make sure to keep my distance.
Say I love you when you're not listening.
How long can we keep this up?

Chapter 6: Misunderstood

Ronald's Point of View:

Ron would rather die than hurt Hermione, both mentally and physically.

And that's mainly why he cheated on her, as stupid as it seems.

You see, he realized long ago that he didn't and couldn't love her. Keeping his feelings to himself was simply a plan to protect her.

Hermione has always been perfect. I suppose that made him feel... less. It didn't make sense in the first place that he didn't love her.

Bless her heart, she never attempted to make me feel like that. They simply didn't click. Even her and Harry would've made a better couple than them.

This all seems superficial, perhaps, but he'd like to have a partner with whom he can share a nice conversation without having to argue about their different points of view. It might have been better when they were best friends. They weren't expected to share everything from an opinion to a closet.

When he initially fell in love with her, it was the little things. It was the fact that she'd literally prefer to die rather than get expelled. As they both aged, the list of details grew. Preferring to die turned into punching a bully twice her size for giving her shit. She has always been the 'go-to' person when things went wrong. He loved how she always did her makeup in nothing but panties and a bra.

However, no matter how long that list of details is, it was not enough to make a relationship work. Relationships were a tricky business, they needed passion. Sometimes you say the right words, take the right actions, flirt at the right times, and it simply doesn't work.

It was their eight-month anniversary the night he understood that you can love someone and not be in love with them. He took her out on a date which he had planned to the last detail.

Do you know what might be the scariest thing on Earth? Doing everything correctly, and still failing.

He was so desperate to make it work.

So you can imagine his frustration when it didn't go as well as he wanted to.

She didn't notice.

She didn't understand how much he needed romance in his life. He wanted someone he could shower with love. Their relationship had been bleeding long before Ron gave it its fatal wound.

Ron knew it wasn't her fault that he didn't love her. So that night when he headed out again, he wondered around for hours till finally reaching a muggles' pub. He was in desperate need for some muggle whiskey. The pub was full with strangers, he kept to himself and watched the game of football on the screen. Halfway through his drink he heard, "Do you think muggles are actually lame or is it because we're always uncomfortable around them that we don't think they're fun?"

Surprised, Ron instantly turned towards her.

She had one eyebrow arched above her dark eye, he couldn't help staring at how beautiful she is.

He searched her face until recognition took him over, "I remember you."

She chuckled, "I would be offended if you didn't. I've only known you forever. It's Romilda by the way."
