Where did I go wrong?
I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
How to Save a Life- The Fray
Chapter 15
As Pure As a LilyHad you asked Narcissa Malfoy a few years back how she imagined spending the night after her husband's funeral, Drunk with a lot of people, would've been her witty comment.
Never in her life-time of dreams, would she have known that her guess will be accurate.
She wasn't exactly drunk, but she wasn't exactly sober either.
Early on in the night, Narcissa noticed that Hermione had refused to drink. Curiosity getting the best of them, her and Molly cornered the younger witch for an interrogation in the kitchen.
"So Hermione dear," Mrs. Weasely began. "How's everything going so far?"
Hermione eyed them weirdly, "Umm it's been going good..." She rested her back on the counter, arms crossed over her chest. "Why does this feel like an intervention?"
Narcissa scoffed at the accusation, "Not in the slightest, I simply wanted to get to know my son's partner that's all."
"Oh." Hermione relaxed a bit. "Well that's nice of you. I'm sorry we had to meet, again I suppose, under such circumstances." Narcissa Malfoy tried to hide her wince at Hermione's reference to the previous times they've met in this manor.
"Yes dear, I haven't forgotten. Suppose I never will."
Hermione offered the older blond a small smile then reached a hand across the kitchen island and gave hers the softest of tugs.
"So dearie," continued Molly as she tried to put as many dishes out of Narcissa's way. "Are your duties as head girl flowing smoothly? I hear you got a new dorm and all."
"Yes that's true. Draco and I share a two-bedroom dorm now."
Oh. Both mothers tried to act surprised which raised Hermione's suspicion even more.
Arms crossed, again.
"Why waste a room for a bedroom if everyone expected them to share one eventually." Mz. Black muttered more to herself than anyone else. Lucky for her, Hermione was too shocked by the sight of Winky the elf coming into the kitchen for a drink.
Hermione was torn between shock and horror, her voice immediately going up a few pitches. "Hey Winky, lovely to see you here." She threw a nervous glance towards the general area of the living room, disappointed that Draco never mentioned having a new house-elf. He probably avoided the topic completely, knowing Hermione's visions on the slavery.
Winky contemplated going up to Hermione to give her a hug, but voted against it.
"Thanks to you miss, I get to be here, miss." She ended up saying shyly.
Hermione relaxed her shoulders slightly.
Okay at least Winky, seems to like it here.
But didn't she think she liked it back at Hogwarts?
She was almost always drunk at Hogwarts.
What changed then?
She decided to stop her mental argument and try to get actual answers.
