Salty tears streamed down my chin and plopped onto my fallen friend's back. "I'm not leaving you," I said. My voice was thick with emotion. "I can't. I love--"
I went mute, registering the meaning of my words, knowing it was true, knowing Mika deserved the truth, but unable to admit it. "You're like a brother to me." I said instead.
The blood on the floor was splattered over my polished boots and invaded any of the exposed fabric of my clothes that touched it. I could tell that Mika was mortally injured. Still, I couldn't just leave him there.
"Go," he rasped,"You have to stop them...he's...a vampire..." Mika went silent and lay there unconscious, maybe even dead. I shook him back and forth desperately. Blood gushed forth even faster from his open. I stopped and yelled "MIKA!!!" in a tsunami of fear and remorse.
I got up unsteadily and fled back to Guren's office, tears streaking my face, but needing help too badly to care how I looked.
