A girl with lavender hair turned up her nose at me as Yuu and I breezed by. She looked at me with disapproval and purses her lips. "That's Shinoa," Yuu hissed, "Walk faster." Not to be deterred, Shinoa sidled up to Yuu, which, for some reason, I found extremely grating. I didn't like the idea of her and Yuu... together.

"Hello, Yuu," She cooed. Shinoa laced her fingers through Yuu's.  My partner went rigid as the female clung to his arm. Eventually he murmured "hi" and shook her off of him. I glanced back, but she had already sashayed off as haughtily as she knew how.

Eyeing me quizzically, Yuu asked," What's wrong?"

I shrugged and changed the subject. "Do you think that Guren is going to let me stay and train me and everything?" The solemn general had just finished lecturing the two of us in his office about our conduct towards him. He claimed that concealing my past had only served to weaken the "Moon Demon Company", as he put it. Furthermore, he said, driving the point home, we both need to be trained in the use of demon swords so that we could defend ourselves when the need arose. But it seemed unlikely that Guren would even let me stay.

"I don't know," Yuu replied honestly. His brows tied themselves into knots. "Probably. I mean, it's a dangerous world out there. We have to be able to protect each other. And kill vampires." His emerald eyes lit up with vicious glee. He rubbed his hands together, his shock of vantablack harboring up and down with excitement.

My reaction was, if anything, the opposite of Yuu's. I was dubious and uncomfortable. You didn't know the truth about me. No one here did. Before  Yuu could do anything for me that he'd regret, I stopped and admitted reluctantly, "I'm a vampire."
