"Wait," I bark, trying to stumble back but forgetting about the door. I want to push it open, but rationality stops me. She could kill me before I could make one move. The only way out of this is to think my way out of this.
"Why do you do it, anyway?" I ask. " What motive would a human have to work with a vampire?"
"I could ask you the same thing." Shinoa thinks the scythe's base against the carpet, but her grip doesn't release.
"That's different," I snap, face warm.
"Ferid found me as a child and took me in for blood. Livestock. Like you. But I overheard him talking about needing an infiltrator, someone the Moon Demon Company wouldn't suspect. So I volunteered. In return, Ferid promised me eternal life of I could uncover the secrets of all you pathetic humans." She gives a mocking sneer.
"You're a vampire, then," I say cautiously. I glance at the lethal weapon with trepidation. I know that Shinoa can wield it with deadly accuracy. I also know that I won't regenerate if I get impaled in the stomach.
"Close. Your boyfriend and I are more similar than you could imagine."
I bite back a retort involving clinginess and liars with purple hair. "Then you'll understand why I need to find to find Ferid. And fast."
She peers at me from behind her lilac curtain of hair. "And why is that?""Because I want to be immortal, too. I finally realize that humans are inferior. I'm willing to do what has to be done," I say, hoping I sound convincing.
Her eyes narrow with distrust, her lip curling. Then her eyes soften and she breaks into a smile. "I told Ferid you'd learn. Come with me."
