Mika and Kumizuki file into the hallway about ten minutes after Yoichi had run out, face tight with worry. My imagination had started working overtime, producing images of what could have shaken Yoichi like that, but I had had to remind myself that he was easily upset. It was one of his unique traits that sometimes made me think of him as a little kid, though he was anything but after seeing his sister slaughtered by vampires as a child. An experience like that seems to shear people of their innocence.
I know know, as I take in their grim faces, that I had been acting like a jealous boyfriend. Nothing could have happened between them. Any remaining doubts are quickly extinguished as Mika and Kumizuki recount their discoveries to me.
"So you're coming with us?" I ask Kumizuki after they finish explaining everything.
He nods, his pink hair bobbing. "Once I pack. But first you have to talk to Shinoa, and I have to see if Yoichi and Mitsuba will join. We are a regiment, after all."
"Me? Confront Shinoa?"
Mika puts a hand on my shoulder. A benign look partially smothers my irritation. "Yuu, I know you hate her, but she won't trust me or Kumizuki enough to tell us anything. It has to be you."
I exhale noisily. "Ugh. Fine."
"You should get to it. I'll be ready soon, and, as you might have noticed, I don't like to be kept waiting." Kumizuki shoves me in the general direction of Shinoa's room, and I walk directly towards it.
