CHAPTER 3: ANOTHER SIDE

I was able to go by the first half of classes unnoticed. Didn't participate this time. Don't want a blackout to occur again.

Now it was time for lunch. I'm not afraid to grab any seat in the cafeteria. I'm usually first there too.

I grab a seat in the corner and I finish my bacon sandwich in one swift motion. Just fast enough so that I don't have to be so conscious eating in front of the whole school. Though I know they probably wouldn't mind me at all.

I grabbed my stuff and headed out of the cafeteria. Upon opening the door, in the corner of my eye, I saw Zane turn the corner, away from the cafeteria. I wasn't interested in what he was possibly doing during lunchtime not in the cafeteria until...

"Jennifer! We're hungry." One of Jennifer's lackeys, Raven, said.

"Then go on without me. I've got more important things to do." Jennifer smugly replied.

"Alright."

They were heading my way. I ignored them, and they did the same. I saw Jennifer turn the same corner as Zane. I'm not usually a busybody but it was something I could do just for the day to take my mind off of other things.

I turned the same corner and it lead to the school's garden. It was a clear glass door. I saw that Jennifer was just standing by the door. She wasn't going in. I got a closer look and saw that she was just staring at Zane who was scribbling something down in his notebook.

I was surprised to see that she was just staring at him. I thought she would've attacked him by now. But she was just watching him with a gentle smile on her face. It actually made me think for a while that she wasn't a true mean popular girl. Then, I saw her take a deep breath and after that, she opened the door and rushed over to sit next to Zane. I went closer, just within earshot.

"Zane! What are you writing?" She said in a cheery way. Zane just looked at her and then put his notebook away. He then looked down. No expression at all. Jennifer let out a hurt smile.

"Alright. None of my business. So... What club are you joining?" Zane just shrugged.

"You should join the newspaper club. Since you write a lot." Zane looked to the opposite side away from her.

"Did you eat already?" He suddenly asked her. She gave a shocked expression.

"Uh... Yeah. I did." She said in reply. I wasn't sure, but I thought I saw him let out a small smile. He got up from where he was sitting and said, "I'm going to get something to eat. You should too." He looked at her quickly then headed out leaving Jennifer blushing in the garden.

He was looking down and heading my way so I hid in the nearest classroom. I peeked a little and he just passed by where i was. I guess he really didn't see me. I waited for a few minutes before i went back out. Once i was, i headed out to the garden. Jennifer was already gone by then. She didn't have any reason to stay anyway.

I took a deep breath. I brought out my flute and played silent night. Why? I just felt like it. That's why. I finished it fast anyway. I put my flute back in my bag and just sat around for a while. It was refreshing to be out for a while. But I just had to be interrupted.

"Hi!" She screamed. I didn't want to be rude so I smiled at her.

"You can play the flute, right?" I gave her a shocked expression. Before I could respond she said, "Of course you do! I heard you. No use in hiding it." I turned away from her.

"Anyway, please come to room 313 today. I'll be waiting." She grabbed my hand, shook it, flashed me a bright smile and left.

I was dazed for a moment but I can figure things out quickly. She was obviously from a club involving instruments because she mentioned my flute and asked me to go to a classroom in school on the day everyone was supposed to head to their respective clubs. Too bad for her I wasn't interested in joining any club. But, damn it, now i was curious. She gave off such a nice shining personality, she had to be another popular kid. I didn't even want to know her name. And i was also feeling guilty because she was being nice to me and yet i'm just going to ignore and disappoint her. And her smile... Was... Friendly? I don't know how to describe it exactly. Anyway, i decided that one friend at school wouldn't hurt.
