CHAPTER 17: I'M NOT A KILLER

"Now lets play." The man said to the little girl.

"I don't want to play with you."

"Come on. We'll have lots of fun."

"No! Don't touch me!"

"Come here!"

"No! Rochelle! Help me!"

No! Don't touch her! Take me! Leave her alone!

"Rochelle! Don't just stand there! Help me!"

I want to. I... I just can't move.

"Lets begin." The man says and they both start to fade away.

"No! Let her go!" I scream, jolting up into a sitting position on my bed. Crying.

"Sweetheart! You're awake!" My grandma hugs me tight.

"Yeah. I'm fine. Um... What happened exactly?"

"Two boys brought you back here. They said you just fainted all of a sudden."

"Really now..." I scratched my head.

"They're still downstairs eating some pudding cake if you want to say thank you."

"Alright. I'll go then." I stood up and went downstairs. The two boys were quiet as my grandpa just continued to stare at them.

"Hi grandpa." He turned to look at me and gave me a big hug.

"Sweetheart! How do you feel? Are you okay? What happened?"

"I'm fine grandpa." He lets go of me.

"Now what exactly did you guys do tonight?" He glares at Levi and Zane.

"We were just trying to get a project out of the school. Levi's pictures." I pointed towards Levi. "And Zane just happened to be nearby. I pointed at Zane. "And they wanted to race. It's been a while since I ran so my body gave out quickly." I said all this as if it was absolutely true.

"Do you want to try for the running team again sweetheart?"

"No dad. I'm fine with what i'm doing right now." I looked over at the boys.

"Thanks guys."

"No problem." Levi smiled at me.

"Sure." Zane said pokerfaced as he stared at me.

"How is everybody doing?" My grandma came down the stairs.

"Grand Mrs. Hovde! Your cake is delicious!"

"Why thank you Levi." She smiled at Levi and looked at Zane.

"You haven't eaten anything yet, have you?"

"Oh. My mom made me something at home. Which reminds me, I better be going."

"Oh! Take some cake home with you." My grandma immediately gets a slice of cake and puts it in a container.

"Here you go! Thanks again!"

"Thanks." Zane leaves with his head down.

"Very gloomy boy, isn't he?" My grandma says once Zane has left the house.

"I better go to. My parents are probably worried now. See you next time Mr. and Mrs. Hovde!" Levi gets up and hurries out the door.

"Such nice boys."

"Nice? Psh. Nice?" My grandpa got up and proceeded up the stairs.

"I'm getting some sleep. Good night."

"We should get some sleep too. Come now." My grandma and I follow him up the stairs and go to our respective rooms. It's definitely time for a well deserved rest.

🎶Sunday morning rain is falling. Steal some cover share some skin.🎶

I sing as I get out of the shower. I love rainy days. I just adore them! Weird? Not for me.

I put on a plain blue shirt and black skinny jeans. I got out a pair of big black boots. I took my overcoat from my hanger.

"Grandma! Grandpa! I'm going out!"

"Okay! Just don't shower in the rain again dear." My grandma tells me then sighs. She can't stop me.

I laughed as I ran out into the rain with my umbrella covering me. I ran to get to the park faster so I wouldn't have to run into anyone. I ran down the five blocks between my house and the park. Once I got there, I immediately stopped in my tracks.

Justin was getting drenched in the rain. I tried to get a better look at him without him seeing me. He was looking up at the sky. Well, his eyes were actually closed. What is he doing just standing there? I would be running around by now.

"KATIE!" He screamed out all of a sudden.

"NICOLE!" He screamed again.

"Why does this always happen to me?!" He screamed and knelt down into the muddy grass. Cupping his face with his hands. He started shaking. I think he was crying.

I don't know why or how but the next thing I knew, I was knelt down next to him and hugging him. I could confirm now that he was crying. He looked at me in shocked.

"Just so you know Justin, it's okay to cry over someone you love. Just don't keep it all to yourself." I started getting teary eyed all of a sudden.

"Don't let their absence be the end of you. They wouldn't like that at all." I hugged him tighter and started to cry along with him. He finally hugged me back.

FLASHBACK

"Don't touch me!" The boy pushed the girl down towards the ground.

"Don't try and comfort me! Don't tell me everything's okay! Everything's not okay!"

"Don't think like that!"

"Don't tell me what I can and can'e think of! You're the reason she's gone! You're the reason she's dead!"

*SLAP*

I stared at Justin, eyes opened wide. I just slapped him.

"Rochelle..."

"I'm sorry..."

"It's okay. I deserved it."

"You deserved it? No. You didn't deserve it. I'm so sorry." I got up and ran away. I looked back and saw that he was just staring at me, still kneeling on the ground.

•••

"Sweetheart! You're soaked! And dirty! What did you do?!" My grandma touched my face and checked me all over.

"Grandma..."

"Lets get you cleaned up."

"Grandma..."

"Yes dear?"

"It hurts." I started to cry.

"What hurts sweetheart? Oh don't cry."

"I keep having flashbacks grandma. Not all of them are good. I keep having nightmares. It hurts. What does it all mean grandma? Did I kill somebody?" I started sobbing and I couldn't stop the tears.

"Sweetheart, why don't you get cleaned up and we'll talk about it after dinner. Okay?" She patted me on the back and headed back into the kitchen. I wiped away my tears and took a nice and long hot bath. I need to relax. A few flashbacks shouldn't get to me. I'm fine. None of those things mean anything. I'm fine. I'm not a killer. I'm perfectly fine.
