Ianto's pov

The morning after getting back from Martha's Jack leads me out to the SUV and tells me to get in. he refuses to tell me where we're going although I soon realise as we head down to the old torchwood entrance. What I don't expect is Jack opening the door and the information desk inside to be the same as it always has been. Surely it must have been completely destroyed by the bomb that destroyed the hub. Jack does something to the controls on his vortex manipulator and the old door to the hub opens. "But it was destroyed," I say in confusion.

"Go on," Jack says gesturing to the door and I step through it as the main door opens in front of me. My jaw drops. The hub has been rebuilt and it looks the same as it always did. Even my old coffee machine is still here, it must have somehow survived the explosion.

"Torchwood 3," says Jack, "Welcome back Ianto."

I make my way up to Tosh and Owen's desks and see that there is a picture of them put up on Tosh's desk. They're both smiling. They look so happy. Jack sees the photo and a shadow crosses his face. "Gwen must have put it there," he says, "She was the one who told me that it had been rebuilt, I guess someone at UNIT likes us."

"Do you think it was him," I ask, I don't say the Doctor's name but Jack knows instinctively who I'm talking about.

"Maybe, he is very friendly with UNIT, he tipped them off about Martha." Jack says, "But I was thinking that we could start again, with Torchwood I mean. Gwen will come back and we could find a couple of new recruits. If you want to."

"Yes," I say, "After all we need someone to protect Cardiff."

"Any chance of a coffee?" Jack says smirking.

"Yes sir," I say back.

"Drop the sir," he calls after me as I walk over to the machine.

We stay in the hub for a while and start up the old computers. Luckily I was never taken offline because there was never a chance for Jack or Gwen to do it so I am able to log back in. At some point over the next few hours Gwen also arrives and sets up her old desk. Despite being busy setting everything back up, at points I can't help but ending up staring at the two empty desks across the hub.

After all of the computers are set up Jack sends me and Gwen down to the morgue and cells while he checks the autopsy room and safe. Apparently the majority of the cells and the morgue were unaffected by the bomb but we still need to check them to see whether there are any bodies left and if there are any loose aliens.

Gwen is quite tense when we first go down to the cells alone, I guess that she is still feeling guilty about how she reacted to me coming back. Jack called her and Rhys last night to tell them that it was ok and that Gwen was welcome back at Torchwood.

After a while she relaxes as we fall back into the usual chat. However, she tenses up again as we reach the morgue. I don't blame her; we have no idea what we will find or what state the bodies will be in.

The first thing that I see when we reach the morgue is that one of the doors on the tanks A:N/ I literally have no better word for it. is open, Suzie's. I hear Gwen swear under her breath in Welsh and I move slowly towards it with my gun out. I look in and see what was once a human body but is now partly rotted. I can tell that it is Suzie but the fact that it is open means that someone must have been here before us. I close it and look in the one next to it, empty. All of them are empty except for Suzie's.

I hear Gwen scream but before I can turn around my vision goes black.
