Chapter 5: The Popularity Test
"Jadeline?"
At first I thought that it was Tot, talking to me from Heaven. But then I realized it was Marcy again.
"You there?"
I looked at her. "How long was I out?"
"About 10 minutes. You doze off all of the sudden. You okay there?" Marcy asked curiously.
"I-I'm fine," I lied, "It's nothing really."
We spotted Lindsay walking by. As we try to stay hidden and turned around, she spotted us and walked over to where we were.
"Hai!" she said again. (Ugh, why does looking at her make me feel like puking?) Ready for the popularity test?
Marcy and I wanted to say no but then Lindsay would probably throw a tantrum, so we shrugged instead.
"I take that as a yes!" she grabbed our sleeves and dragged us to the cafeteria.
THE PLACE WAS HUUUUGE!
The Pops looked like they were movie stars. The cheerleaders were all fawning over the football players. I didn't understand them.
Lindsay walked onto cafeteria stage, with the sound of her red heels clicking each other. Then she went to backstage to change. When she came out, me and Marcy were astonished by her appearance. She wore a sparkly red gown that looked like they were designer made. My parents would probably have to work full-time at their jobs to afford it. Her earrings were so big that I could reach my hand through them. Her hair was jeweled and curled, and she looked radiant.
"Ladies and gentlemen! Welcome to our first annual popularity test! Sponsored by the cafè-teria! The lunch lady waved to the crowd as she walked past the stage. The Pops sarcastically clapped.
Marcy elbowed me, as if telling me this whole thing was stupid. I couldn't agree more.
"We will begin shortly so please sit tight!" Lindsay announced.
I was bored so I looked around me. To my left I spotted Sandra, who was braiding a cheerleader's hair. The cheerleader looked like she was rather enjoying it. Sandra looked like she was doing it against her own will, and gritted her teeth. The Pop didn't seen to care about slaving Sandra into giving her a braid.
I looked behind me. The the rest of the Abnormals were sitting there. Baylee had brought her MP3 player to listen to whatever metal song she had brought. Then I looked to my right. There was a Pop carrying a tray to her table. As she was walking, I noticed that her fancy black boots were really something to look at. How beautiful! But then wait. She was about to step into something. A bowl of pudding lay right in front of her. Some idiot unconditionally knocked over their nice, bowl onto the floor. The boots were probably the best I had seen, and they had what looked like real diamonds on their sides. I don't care of she slips and falls, but I wasn't going to let those fancy pair of boots get stained, not even a little.
I told Marcy that I had to use the bathroom and left. I ran, parkouring like I never did before. I jumped from
table to table and rushed to that Pop. People were staring at me. I didn't even know I could do such incredible jumps and leaps until now. Finally, when I had reached the Pop, I grabbed a tray from another Pop that was currently eating it and slid it under her feet. The girl was really an idiot. She had walked on top of the tray and kept moving. Her beautiful boots were still crystal clean. Then I relaxed. Everyone was staring at me now -except the girl with the nice boots-. Then I realized she was distracted listening to songs on her IPod.I didn't know what to do; I never had so much attention in my life.
Suddenly out of nowhere, a jock gasped and pointed out, "THAT WAS.... INCREDIBLE!" Everyone stood up and clapped. Even the Abnormals did. People were whistling and shouting.
I was embarrassed. Then, a tall and pretty brunette Pop said something that really surprised me. "Ya' wanna be a Pop? You just passed the test!"
