Chapter 6: Don't Get Poppy!
I stood there, frozen.
"N-No it's not like that. I'm good being an Abnormal!"
The brunette smiled rather kindly. "My name is Julie. Nice to meet you." She held out her hand. I uneasily shook it.
Pops from all over the cafeteria started shouting,
"Join our group!"
"You can be a Pop!"
"We can replace you with Lindsay!"I didn't want to be a Pop. I wanted to stay and hang out with my Abnormal friends.
"I don't deserve to be a Pop." I said to Julie.
Julie was probably the prettiest girl I've ever seen. Even Baylee would look pale in comparison. Julie didn't wear any make-up and she was still beautiful. She had a braid braided downwards in the front string of her hair. Her eyes were ocean blue and her eyelashes were long, but not as long as Baylee's. That was her only flaw in beauty. She dressed up like a normal girl would, with a tank-top, some shorts, and Nike shoes. I couldn't help but stare at her.
Lindsay was still at the stage. "Umm! Stop paying so much attention on her! She's unattractive and doesn't deserve be a Pop just because she did a couple of leaps or whatever! That wasn't even the test! Julie stop confirming things that aren't true! My test, my rules! She passed nothing!" Lindsay complained (almost screaming).
Just then, a miracle happened. Someone threw a tomato at her.
Lindsay literally screamed. I guess I kind of felt bad for her. Her dress and hair were ruined and she looked like a hot mess.
A Pop dude with golden hair -who looked like the younger brother of Justin Bieber- calmly and strictly said, "Lindsay, we've decided to remove you from the Pops. We declare you as an Abnormal for your recent actions and behaviors. Welcome to your new family."
Lindsay's jaw literally dropped. The golden haired Pop picked her up and carried her off stage, with Lindsay crying along the way. He must've been really strong to do all that stuff.
Lindsay was tearing as she said, "Jesse! You can't make me!"
Julie smiled again and said, "That's my boyfriend. He's cute."
I smiled back, unknowing her feelings for him. I once searched something up about love. It said that love is when you feel a fluttering in your heart. I never felt it. Not even to a friend or family member.
Julie gave me her number, as if she was confirming me as a new friend.
"I can't," I said, I have friends who are Abnormal and need me."
Julie answered without hesitation, "Ok. If you ever feel like joining, then give me a call!"
This brought me to the understanding that maybe all Pops aren't so bad. And just because Lindsay was, doesn't mean everybody else is. I took her number and put it in my pocket.
"Thanks," I said. Julie replied with a 'No problem'. Then she walked away.
Then the 27 Abnormals surrounded me, wide-eyed.
"Are you going to join the Pops?" said Ashley, who was Abnormal because she thinks she's secretly a unicorn who is trapped in a girl's body.
"They look like they really want you," said Charlene, an Abnormal because she fell in love with a fictional character she saw in a kids' cartoon.
"Of course not!" I said a little too fast. "Don't worry guys, I'll never leave you."
They seemed happy.
Chapter 7: 4 Years Ago
Suddenly, I found myself waking up. It was 4 years ago. The day when I found out Tot had died.
"Extra! Extra! Boy commits suicide without fear!" The newspaper editor was shouting.
I screamed. My parents rushed to my room to find out what happened. I was crying when they came. They asked me what happened. I told them. Told them exactly what happened. I did not leave out a single detail.
My parents were shocked. We went downstairs to turn on the TV. Tot's death was all over the news.
"Hello! This is Johnny Abrahams speaking to you. Today's headlines is about a boy who was about eight years of age-"
"Nine." I corrected.
"-who commited suicide because he had faced some troubles in his life.-"
"LIAR!" I shouted. Tot had spent his whole life suffering as a boy without emotion. He's survived 9 years this way. I would've killed myself immediately. Tot bore all the trouble and hardship that was brought into him. That was another reason why he was an Abnormal. My parents told me to be quiet and listen.
"Poor kid," said another reporter, "He did it without fear, too. His sister went on a rampage. She must've been very depressed.
"Yup," said Johnny Abrahams, "I talked to her today. She was very desperate to find the person who led the boy into suicide. She went insane."
I paused for a moment before I could continue. My dad squeezed my shoulder.
"Here is a clip of the boy's sister rampaging."
The clip censored her face. Her sister grabbed her own neck sleeve and pulled it to her face. She screamed into it. When she was asked questions, she refused to answer.
"Hello, I'm Bob Meryl, speaking to you from Johnny Abrahams' show. I see that you're very persistent to-"
The girl calmed down. She looked up from her sleeve and to Bob Meryl.
"-to find the person who led your brother into commiting suicide. Anything so say-"
He was cut off by the girl. She kicked him in the chest and Bob fell backwards, falling on top of another person. Then, she grabbed a mic from him and said something in a death-tone,
"I will find you and kill you."
I knew she meant me.
My mom told me to not believe these kinds of threats from anyone, especially from a little girl like her. She looked my age.
The next clip they showed was Tot's parents talking. Tot was absolutely right. His parents didn't care about him. They simply did not cry or do anything emotional.
"Our son was a fine lad." said his dad, "He is rather emotion-less though."
That was all he said.
This was all my fault. If only I could love. Then I could've talked him out of suicide because caring for someone was another form of love. I read that from an article.
I ran back into my room and shut the door. I stayed there for 4 weeks without coming out even to go to school; only to use the bathroom and to eat.
"Tot was gone..." I said as I cried myself to sleep. When I woke up, I was back in my room 4 years later.
I still cried, though.
