CHAPTER SIXTEEN

The Dame and The Brute – Part 2

After a week, Prince Rigor escorted Princess Leia, the royal couple and her adoptive parents back to the kingdom where she belonged.

Leia still couldn’t remember anything about her past. Upon her arrival to the castle, she was introduced to the members of the royal family. She had an uncle, who was the only brother of her father. She had two aunts, who were identical twins and older than his uncle. His uncle was married and had a son as old as Prince Rigor and a daughter as old as her. Her aunts were both married as well to nobilities. She also met her cousins from them. They were all young ladies. Each of her two aunts had two teen-aged daughters.

The attention that Prince Rigor had paying Princess Leia had sparked jealousy from her female cousins who were all smitten by the charm of the prince. But Prince Rigor paid no attention to them. Prince Rigor escorted the family back to their kingdom to formally court Princess Leia. He was sarcastic around other ladies except from Princess Leia.

Princess Leia had sensed Prince Rigor’s sincerity but she wasn’t ready yet to accept his love. She still wanted to know who she really was.

“I can feel your sincerity, Prince Rigor. I’m aware that you genuinely care for me. I also care for you but I’m still confused with everything. I don’t know who I really am. I cannot accept your love yet. If you cannot wait on me then you’re free to look for another lady to bestow your love,” she told him.

Prince Rigor wasn’t dissuaded, “I have loved you ever since we met eleven years ago. But you couldn’t remember anything that happened between us during your stay in our castle. I’m willing to wait on you, Princess Leia. I love you and I want you only to be my future wife and the future mother of all my children. So, I’ll wait no matter how long it takes.”

Prince Rigor’s constant act of ignoring the other young ladies in the castle had caused Princess Leia’s female cousins to play pranks on her. At once instance, they connived to sabotage her gown and shoes for the grand ball that their grandparents had hosted for her arrival. Prince Rigor had provided her with a much expensive and prettier gowns and pairs of shoes as an engagement present and so Princess Leia wore one of the gowns and one of the pair of shoes he provided along with the expensive pieces of jewelry he had provided instead of what her grandparents had provided for her.

The grand ball was held to announce her return as well as her wedding engagement to Prince Rigor. It was the first day of spring.

While they were dancing, Princess Leia asked him, “Why did my grandparents announce our wedding engagement? I haven’t accepted your love yet.”

Prince Rigor informed her, “We were betrothed long ago by our parents. I escorted you back to formally court you. We won’t immediately get married. But I just want everyone to know that you already belong to me so no other prince will dare stealing you from me.”

Princess Leia responded in a lighter note, “But I don’t think the announcement of our wedding engagement won’t stop my female cousins from stealing you from me.”

Prince Rigor smiled and said, “I’m only yours, my love.”

Princess Leia asked, “Why are you always mean to other ladies but me?”

Prince Rigor imparted, “As I told you, I fell in love with you years ago. When I thought you died with your parents, I trained myself very hard. I had fought battles to suppress the rebels who had caused your death as well as your parents. Fate has brought us back together. I will do everything to protect you from harm.”
