CHAPTER SIX

Their Plight

October 15, 2011. Saturday evening. Geoffrey and Leianne sat down on the courtside as they watched the game of Canyan Brewers against Missi Towers.

All throughout the game, fans and even players from both teams approached them to have an autograph from Geoffrey. Leianne was ready for the sign pens and permanent markers. She knew it could happen so she asked his close-in security personnel to be ready. The fans were courteously asked to line up and take turns.

On the half-time break, Geoffrey was also interviewed by the sideline sports reporter. The interview went like this –

Reporter    :     Sir, it has been a long while since you appeared once more in FBA after your injury. Please tell us what happened within your years of absence.

Geoffrey     :     Everyone knew I had an accident from a motocross event. Both my ankles were injured. I had undergone a series of surgeries and also a series of physical therapies so that I can walk again. I also busied myself with work.

Reporter    :     We heard about your wedding engagement to Miss Leianne Villar. How did the two of you meet?

Geoffrey     :     We met years ago in Los Angeles just after my operations. I still didn’t know then that she was the eldest granddaughter of the founders of Canyan’s Best, Don Fortunato and Doña Laureana Villar. She was one of my physical therapies and an excellent one. When she went back here at Filipinas, we weren’t able to meet again until last night. I don’t want to let her go anymore so I asked her to marry me and she accepted.

Reporter    :     When will the wedding be, sir?

Geoffrey     :     We don’t want to wait long so as soon as everything is ready, we’ll get married within a month’s time.

Reporter    :     Your message for your team, sir.

Geoffrey     :     Well, I just want them to enjoy the game and give their best. Win or lose, the management will support them. But of course it will be much better if we can make it up to Finals. It has been a long while that the team entered into Quarter Finals. I think it’s about time for Canyan Brewers to soar high again just like before when I was still playing.

Reporter    :     Shall we see you often on the games of Canyan Brewers, sir?

Geoffrey     :     My fiancée and I will try to watch the games live as our schedules permit.

Reporter    :     Thanks for your time, sir. It feels great to be able to interview an icon like you.

Geoffrey     :     You’re welcome.

The sideline sports reporter also asked for his autograph.

In a timeout around the fourth quarter of the game, Geoffrey and Leianne was captured by the kiss cam. He kissed her lips and it appeared by the giant screen of the Torres Sports Arena located in Gobol City. The arena was the home of Canyan Brewers, the men’s basketball team and Canyan Bottlers, the women’s basketball team. Both teams were owned by TFBC.

The Canyan Brewers won the game. They were just one win away from entering the Semi Finals.

On their way back to Torres Ancestral Mansion aboard Geoffrey’s black raven 2011 Cadillac Escalade ESV Platinum, they talked even with the presence of his driver Antonio and their three bodyguards Maximo, Dionisio and Wilfredo. They were seated by the third row seat. They cuddled.
