CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Making Amends

Two months had passed. Leilani had been engaged into a scandal. Leilani got pregnant of Simon’s child but Simon already announced his forthcoming marriage to his ex-girlfriend whom he had his first son.

The restaurant business of her Tita Emily was on the bridge of bankruptcy. They had already sold their house and lot. Leianne requested a meeting with her aunt and her half-sister.

She met them at their restaurant before it opened up.

Tita Emily was at first sarcastic to her. “What do you want? We’re already falling apart. This is what you want.”

“I didn’t come here to taunt you. I came to offer my help,” Leianne tried to be calm. “Leilani, if you’re really sure that Simon Alcazar is the father of your child then we can demand child’s support. I had also arranged for an apartment for you to live at. It is already paid up for a year’s rent. Tita continue on with the restaurant. I already asked Penelope to extend her expertise in helping you out. Leilani, you need to help your Mom.”

Leilani asked, “Why are you doing this?”

Leianne answered, “Despite all the feud, we’re still family. Dad and Tito are already paying for their crimes. You have done your share too. It’s now time to be more responsible. You’ll soon be a mother. Make use of the degree you finish. If you want to work for the company then Ian will give you a position suited to your qualifications. So, will you accept my help or not.”

Tita Emily answered, “I’ll ask Damian first.”

Leianne replied, “Let me talk to him, Tita. You have to swallow your pride. I just want the best for you and Leilani. You both need to work hard. Nothing is for free. I already asked my obstetrician-gynecologist to take care of your pregnancy, Leilani. She has a clinic here in Wallori City.”

“Okay,” Leilani agreed. “Will you really help me with Simon?”

Leianne answered, “We cannot force him to marry you if he doesn’t want. But we can demand him to give his name to your child and to provide child support. But you need to be honest with me. Is he really the father of your child?”

Leilani cried, “He is the first man in my life, Ate. I trusted him. I haven’t slept with any man but him.”

Leianne confirmed it. “You have to swear you’re telling the truth, Leilani.”

Leilani swore crying, “I swear it with my life.”

Leianne held Leilani’s hands, “If that’s the case then Geoff will do everything in his power to demand Simon of his obligations to your child.”

She gave her aunt the address of the apartment, “You just need to pay for water, electric and telephone services, Tita. You can move in as early as today. I’ll visit Dad today. Don’t worry about him. I’ll let him understand that I meant no harm.” She then gave Leilani the business card of Dr. Katlyn Sandoval, “Call her and schedule a prenatal checkup. The fees will be charged to me.”

Leianne left her aunt and her half-sister. Maximo and Wilfredo along with her  other security escorts accompanied her to Canyan Penitentiary.

Leianne told her father, “I already offered my help to Tita and Leilani. I know you don’t want any help from me but they had no one to turn to but me. Lola, Mommy and Ian are still hesitant in helping Tita and Leilani. Ian’s fiancée will help Tita with the restaurant. Ian will provide a job for Leilani at the company fit for her qualifications. I already paid up for a year rental for their  new apartment. I will also shoulder the medical expenses for Leilani’s pregnancy. Geoff will demand his basketball player to give Leilani’s child his name and child support. I just came here to inform you. Don’t let them turn their backs on us. They need our help.”
