CHAPTER ELEVEN

Duties and Responsibilities

Leianne had already started with her duties and responsibilities for the Torres Charity Funds with the help of the five-man team composed of a lawyer, two accountants and two secretaries. She had to visit orphanages, nursing homes, school, hospitals, and livelihood centers that TFBC was supporting.

She also accompanied Geoffrey in attending social gatherings hosted by his friends in the corporate world. They attended birthdays, anniversaries, christenings, confirmations, weddings, funerals and fundraising activities.

December 1, 2011. Thursday. They watched the first game for the FBA Finals. It was a close fight. Canyan Brewers lost by just one point.

Ian and Penelope were already dating. The two really seemed to be in love and they were taking their time in knowing each other much better.

Leianne knew she was delayed with her monthly period and she was suspecting she was pregnant. She had already bought a home pregnancy test kit. It had already been more than a week since she missed her period. She already talked to her obstetrician-gynecologist, Dr. Katlyn Sandoval, through the phone and the doctor could accommodate her by December 16  since she was still in vacation. So the doctor suggested that she performed home pregnancy test first. 

Early that morning she had tested herself positive for pregnancy. She hadn’t told Geoffrey yet. She wanted to make sure of it once her doctor checked her up already. 

But the following morning, she felt so sick. She woke up feeling nauseous and she had to throw up. Geoffrey had been alarmed. He was so worried about her. So when her vomiting stopped and he had already carried her back to their bed, she gave him the home pregnancy test device.

His eyes widened, “You’re pregnant?” 

She nodded in approval. “I think so. I’m already scheduled to see my doctor by December 16 to make sure but since you’re worrying too much about my morning sickness so I think you should know already.”

He was so happy, “So we conceived during our honeymoon?”

She nodded once more. “But we still need to be sure. My doctor is still on vacation and we still need to watch the games of Canyan Brewers. I think its best that we don’t tell others yet.”

He kissed her lips. He was indeed so happy at the possibility of her pregnancy. “I’ll accompany you on your checkup. You need to be extra careful from now on.” He touched her tummy. “Baby, be good to Mommy.”

Geoffrey had doubled her security whenever she had to go out alone either for personal or charitable causes.

They had watched all the games of Canyan Brewers against Zatobia Wildcats. The fight was so closed that it reached until Game 7 to conclude the Finals.

December 15, 2011. Thursday. Canyan Brewers emerged victorious. The team had dedicated their triumph to Geoffrey. Geoffrey and Leianne were even invited by the team to receive the Championship Cup with them. They had posed for several photos for the sports press photographers and then they left.

They went back home to the penthouse in Gobol City that night.

December 16, 2011. Friday morning. They had attended the first mass for the Simbang Gabi in Immaculate Conception Parish Church in the city proper of Gobol. Leianne regularly attended mass at the parish church on  Sundays since they returned from their honeymoon and Geoffrey had accompanied her.

They went back to the penthouse after the mass. Geoffrey was to accompany her in her appointment to her obstetrician-gynecologist around 9:00 AM so he had to go to work after that.
