Chapter 20: Assassination

That morning, the trio woke up at the river they were at last night. Ruby woke first, cupping her hands in the cold water and splashing on her own face. It was ice-cold.

"Well that's quality water." Ruby said to herself with a little laugh. "Weird how in the cities,our faucet water looks dirtier than this..." She cupped a handful of water in her hands again and stood up. Dirt was stained on her knees,actually in quite a bit of places. Luckily not her clothes.

She walked to a wider,oval shaped pool-like lake. She checked around to be sure nobody was around,and stripped off her clothes to bathe in the water. While washing herself,she saw a medium size scar between her collarbone and chest. She remembered when Gared shot her,then shook her head. She sucked in air and held her breath, then dunked the rest of herself in the water.

Gaudete woke up hearing a big splash. He thought a branch fell in water,probably through rotting. He checked to be sure only to see Ruby with her back turned to him. He saw her clothes next to the lake and blushed brightly,realizing the situation. And at the worst moment possible, she turned her head to him. Realization hit her hard and her whole face went crimson. She then was pretty mad,thinking he was a Peeping Tom. She hit him with a stone.

"WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT?!!" She exclaimed rather loudly,covering her breasts with one arm. Gaudete turned his head from her.

"I-i-i thought a branch snapped and hit water,sorry!" He explained quickly. She was just about to throw another stone,but then set it in the water,letting it sink.

"Oh....sorry.....can you turn away completely please? I need to get dressed." She asked of him. He nodded and did as asked of. He heard her get out the water and little sounds of unfolding clothing. "You can look now." He turned back around to see her in a deep blue collared shirt with lace at the bottom. She had a white skirt with gold trim and white lace. She had white leggings with deep blue ribbon. "Strange how it seems like nobody else woke up yet. I'll go check on them." She said as she went to where everyone should be sleeping.

Yukino was helping Senshi know how to climb seemingly impossible things. Like a smooth tree trunk. Senshi was getting halfway before slipping and fell on his side. Yukino shook her head,helping him up.

"I think we need to try something else." She suggested. Senshi nodded.

"You think? How about, a wall?" He looked around. "Then again,it's a forest...so maybe a tree that isn't as smooth." He said,correcting himself. Yukino checked the time by a small,thin deep blue watch.

"Not now. It's about time we joined the others." She told him. As he looked over her shoulder to see. She rolled back down her dark gray sleeve and fixed the rest of her hoodie. "Now that I mention it,Ruby wasn't there when we woke up..hopefully nothing bad's going on." Senshi nodded,agreeing.

When they got there,everyone else was ready to go. But Cruz's complexion was completely pale,suggesting she saw or thought of something frightening.

Once they headed on their way, Cruz caught up with Senshi and walked next to him. Senshi looked over at her.

"Hey, what's up?" He asked,noticing how she caught up with him specifically. She was still a little pale. She tucked a strand of blonde hair behind her ear.

"I,I wanna ask about Gared....what happened between you two to make him say things about you being naïve?" Cruz asked,looking up at Senshi. Senshi hesitated before replying.

"Well.......he was wanting to KILL S-Class humans.....Yukino included...he went to shoot her,but......." He couldn't finish. He looked over at Ruby,remembering the scene all over again. Cruz figured it out by his glance.
