4. Old Friends, Gone Now

Your POV
I woke up with a jolt to the sound of a door slamming. I roused Jeffory moments before a handsome blonde young man walked in. Behind him was another man maybe a year of two older than him with brown hair, green eyes, and a green scarf around most of his face.

The blonde sat down across from me and Jeffory and narrowed his blue eyes at us. "Alexis told me that she found you two on wyverns outside the gates. Is this true?" he asked. I nodded. "We've just, uh, escaped the Nether." "Oh! I see," he said. "So, you're Shadow Knights...?" Jeffory shook his head. "No, but I was about to be turned before Y/n managed to communicate with the wyverns and escape." The blonde nodded. "We will take you in, of course. My name is Lord Levin of Phoenix Drop. This is my older brother, Malichi." He motioned towards the masked man. "We would be happy to help you in any way. You are free to explore the village for now."

Jeffory nodded again and stood up. "I need some fresh air as well." I followed him out with a wave to Lord Levin and Malichi.

Jeffory went off to explore the big tree, so I ventured out of the gates. After a lot of walking, I found a huge crater. I gasped and ran to the edge. A sword was lying in the ashes.

It was Zane's.

I covered my eyes and wept. Zane had been my friend since childhood. We did everything together. Suddenly I felt something like a shadow wash over me and I looked up to see some sort of ghost standing over me.

Zane.

"Zane!" I gasped. I tried to hug him but my arms went through him with a weird, chilly feeling. Zane looked down at me in guilt and a bit of evil. "Y/n," he murmured. Then we began to sing.

I lunged at Zane, fury burning inside me. He laugh maniacally and grabbed my wrist. I tried to pull away but his grip was too strong. I realized he was materializing in front of me. Into a real person. Into himself.

I gasped as I felt my life draining out of my body. He had tricked me into believing he was still good. As the last particle snapped into place he let go of me and I fell to the ground. Zane reached into the crater and pulled his sword out. "I actually like you at one point," he said coldly. "Too bad it will never last." Then hr brought his sword down into my chest.

Jeffory's POV (YAYYY xD)

I was walking through the forest when I heard a terrible scream. I unsheathed my glaive and sprinted towards it.

I emerged at the edge of a huge crater. I didn't want to question it. Then I spied something going on at the other side of the crater.

Wait.
Was that...
ZANE?!

He was pulling his sword out of something in front of him. It was dripping with red blood and he was laughing maniacally. My breath caught in my throat when I saw what he had pulled his murder weapon out of.

It was Y/n.
