12. Flight from O'khasis (Why are there so many flights)

Your POV

"NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!" I screamed. Cracks suddenly appeared in the floor and snaked in the direction of the guard. A hole opened underneath his feet and he fell.

Lapis came out of nowhere and tackled Ivy. She dropped Jeffory and tried to pry Lapis off of her. I jumped forward and scooped him up, getting blood all over my clothes in the process. Ivy threw Lapis off of her and leaped gracefully out the window.

I held Jeffory's face close to mine and cried. "Come back," I sobbed. "COME BACK!!"

Lapis stood next to the window and watched with tears in her eyes. Something flashed in her eyes as if she was remembering something, and a tear rolled down her face.

"Y/n, we have to go," she said in a trembling voice. "Ivy knows we've escaped. We need to get out of here." I hated the logic to that. All of O'khasis was probably on high alert for us. I looked down at Jeffory. "I'm not leaving him," I said.

Lapis pursed her lips. "Get on." She said, spreading her wings to invite me to get on her back. Instead, I put Jeffory on he back and stepped away. "Go. Take Jeffory to Scaleswind, and don't come back for me. I'll be right behind you." "Y/n, I can't just leave you here! You'll be killed!" I tried to smile. "Lapis, take him and go. I'll be back in Scaleswind before you know it." Lapis gave me one last worried look before flying out the window.

I felt the hole in my heart grow bigger and bigger as Lapis flew away, taking Jeffory's limp form with her. After they disappeared in the clouds, I grabbed my katanas from where I had dropped them earlier and ran out the door. I knew O'khasis like the back of my hand, so i kept to the empty alleyways and made my way to the remains of a large house. I climbed in a window, cutting my legs on the broken glass a little bit.

Lying in the dust on the floor was my dragon.

D/n's scales glittered faintly in the afternoon sunlight. He was in the exact same place he had been on when Ivy killed him just a few days ago, but it felt like months since I was discovered in O'khasis.

I placed my hand on D/n's forehead and concentrated. He started to glow with a silver light and all of his wounds disappeared. His eyes suddenly opened and he stood up, spreading his wings.

I giggled. "Hello, D/n," I said. "Welcome back."

The collar was still around his neck, miraculously, so I swung my leg over and sat down. My wings and my blue robes had disappeared earlier after Lapis left, so I had my old clothes back on. Surprisingly, my katanas didn't go back into daggers. I sheathed them anyway and D/n rose into the air.

We made straight for the ocean, where Lapis went. I heard shouting behind us, but I didn't dare look back. It had cost D/n his life last time. We were swooping low under a large arch when I saw two guards kicking something. I told D/n to land silently behind them, and I jumped off on D/n and stabbed them both with my katanas.

Shivering in the alleyway were two cats. One of them was a beautiful calico, and the other was a silver tabby. Both of them looked female. "Aw, did they hurt you?" I asked the cats. To my amazement, they spoke.

"Thank you for saving us!" The calico said in a voice that was high pitched but gentle at the same time. "My name is Spottedleaf, and this is Silverstream."

"Why don't you come with me?" I offered. "Where I'm going is much better than this dump." They nodded and I helped them onto D/n. Once I made sure they wouldn't fall off, we were flying again. After dodging arrows and spears that were thrown at us, we hit the ocean. We were out of O'khasis.

We were free.

I directed D/n towards the rising moon, where Scaleswind was. Soon land came into sight and D/n landed outside the gates. Luckily, Nicole was talking to a Guard outside, and when she saw me she hurried over. "Y/n!" She cried, her gray eyes worried. "You escaped!.....With a dragon....and two cats...."

"Yeah I got some new friends." I said with a playful/sassy tone to my voice. "How's Lapis?" "She's been....settling in. I guess. And I suppose you'd like to know about....?" My heart sped up. "Where is he?" I said. "Follow me." She said.

Spottedleaf and Silverstream followed us through the streets towards Nicole's house. We went in the breakfast room to find Lapis sitting at the table, twirling her finger to make the water in her cup create a spiral. When she saw me, the water spilled onto the table, but she didn't seem to care. She rushed forward and we hugged each other tightly. "I thought you were crazy, making me leaving you there alone," she said, pulling away, her blue eyes sparkling with relief.

"For a while I thought I was crazy too," I replied. "Where is....?" Lapis' smile disappeared. "He's upstairs," she said. "We thought you would want to see him for the last time before we bury him."

Bury him?! I thought. You're going to bury him?!

I rushed upstairs and stopped in front of Jeffory's room. Nicole and Lapis didn't follow me, so I was alone. Spottedleaf and Silverstream did, and they watched as I slowly walked into the room.

I collapsed onto my knees next to his bed, sobbing. He lay motionless there, with new clothes, and no blood on them. There was a streak of it on his cheek, and I caught one of my tears on my finger and wiped the blood away. His hair was still tangled, and his eyes were closed. I tried to remember the sweet, gentle mint green of them, but the memory was already fading into the darkness of my mind.

I looked at Jeffory one last time, and kissed him on his forehead.

I walked towards the door, but stopped dead when I heard someone say my name behind me.

"Y/n...?"
