10. Safe At Last?

Y/N's POV

I woke up in my bed in my room in Scaleswind. I felt safe. I pulled myself out of bed and played my music box as I got dressed. I put on the clothes Nicole left for me -- a white blouse with tan khakis and tall laced brown boots. I put on the f/c flower crown as well. I went down the hall and peeked into Jeffory's room. He was still asleep, so I let him be.

I went downstairs and saw that Nicole had put some breakfast out for us. I quickly ate it and when I was done I decided to go explore Scaleswind. It was much bigger than Phoenix Drop, so I remembered the way back to Nicole's house,

I was walking down one of the streets when someone lunged out of an alleyway and grabbed my wrist. It was an old man who's eyes were unfocused and insane. I screamed and tried to shake him off. I had left my f/j daggers at Nicole's house. He leaped up to grab my neck when someone came out of nowhere and knocked him away. The man hissed at us and hobbled back into the alleyway.

The man who had saved me was a guard. He had handsome light blonde hair, pale skin, and friendly green eyes. "Are you alright? Did he hurt you?" He asked, sheathing his sword. I nodded, rubbing my wrist. "Yeah, I'm fine. Thank you for saving me!" He ducked his head a bit. "It's what we do here." He said with a laugh. He put his hand out. "I'm Cole. You?"

I shook his hand. "I'm Y/n. Nice to meet you." Cole blinked when he heard my name, but I bet it was because he might of never heard it before. "That's a pretty name." He said. I smiled. "Thank you." He glanced up at the hillside, then smirked. "I found this great spot for watching birds catch insects in the sky. I know it doesn't sound that exciting, but it really is. Do you want to go up there with me?"

"Of course! I love animals!" I said. I followed him up the hillside and we laid down in the grass, watching the birds dive back and forth, catching Mosquitos and flies. Once a bird missed a fly, and it missed a few beats in the air. It almost toppled over, and me and Cole had a good laugh at that. After some of the birds went away, Cole led me to a beautiful rose bush at the edge of the forest.

Several hummingbirds were gathered around it, but flew off when we approached. He showed me how to pick a rose without getting cut by the thorns. After I picked one I put it in my flower crown. Cole suddenly started looking at me funny. I didn't know why, but it was a bit unsettling.

"Cole, is anything wrong?" I asked him. He glanced down at the grass, then suddenly lunged at me, pinning me to the ground and putting his sword my throat.

"You," he growled. "O'khasis has been wanting you ever since you escaped the Nether." I realized that Cole had been one of the guards chasing me and my dragon that night in O'khasis. I tried to slip out from under him, but his grip was firm. "I will be paid handsomely for your capture," Cole said. "So let's take a trip, shall we?" Then he slammed his sword on the top of my head and everything went dark.

Jeffory's POV

I woke up and got dressed in the clothes I found on the end of my bed -- a dark green shirt with little iron shoulder pads, ripped brown pants and boots. I combed my hair and found a green flower crown on the desk. I put it on even though I knew it would look a bit silly.

(Trust me I've seen flower crowns on boys it's adorable)

I went downstairs and found Nicole and Dmirti eating breakfast, but Y/n wasn't there. I sat down and started eating.

"Jeffory, have you seen Y/n this morning?" Nicole asked me. She sounded worried. I shook my head. "No, I haven't," I replied. Nicole frowned. "She might be out in the village but there are robbers and such...do you mind looking for her?" I nodded. "I'll see if I can find her."

I walked around the village and asked people if they'd seen her. No one had, so I went back to Nicole's house with no news. We were talking at the table again when someone burst in. It was a pretty woman with Crimson hair and green eyes. "Nicole!" She said. Her eyes were worrisome. "Kiki, what's wrong?" Nicole exclaimed, getting up from her chair. Kiki paused to catch her breath. "One of your guards were attacking someone up by the forest!" Nicole narrowed her eyes. "What did the person look like?" She asked.

"It was a girl with H/c hair and e/c eyes, and she was wearing a white blouse, denim shorts, and tall brown boots." "That's Y/n!!" I realized.

"Kiki, which guard was it?" Nicole asked. "It was Cole," she answered. Nicole snapped her fingers. "The O'khasis transfer -- I should've put him on outer patrol. He's probably halfway to O'khasis by now." I grabbed my glaive. "I'll go after her," I said. Nicole nodded. "Once you rescue Y/n, come back here. I promise you'll be safe." I nodded. "Do you mind if I take one of your horses?"

Nicole nodded. "Take anyone you'd like. Good luck." I ran out to the stables and swung myself onto the one that looked the fastest. Soon we were galloping down the stone road to Narhaka, then to O'khasis.

Just hold out until then, Y/n, I pleaded. Just until I can get to you.
