Chapter 9
Have you ever had a great dream that you wanted to go on forever? Then all of a sudden your younger sibling bursts in your room, waking you up? Well I have been experiencing that for now thirteen years.
"Kyle wake up! It's my birthday," Gabe said jumping up and down. He does this every year and it drives me nuts. Because he always interrupts a good dream. "Wake up!" He whines one more time.
"Alright. Alright I'm awake." I said chuckling. I got up out of my bed to find my cozy sweatshirt. "Why didn't you do it to Rick?" I asked slipping on my sweatshirt.
"Because his stupid door is locked." Gabe said sadly.
"Not for long." I got a confused look on my brothers face, but I didn't care. I looked through my dressers to find the skeleton key on the bottom of the dressers. My parents gave it to me and my parents have one too.
I gripped onto the base of the key to find Rick's room. I've had this key since I was ten years-old. It had a weird design on the bottom. I had tried and tried to figure it out once to no such luck. I got to Rick's door to hear snoring on the other side. I slipped the key into the lock and jiggled the little key to make it unlock. Sometimes it doesn't work without the jiggle.
Dropping the key in my pocket, I walked in. His room has changed since the last time I saw it. There were band posters everywhere, the bed was shoved in the far corner with the blankets all around it. What's with boys and messy rooms?
I shrugged the question off and walked over to his bed. On my way over I saw a air horn hidden under piles of clothes. I smirked. I picked it up in a rush and hit the button. It blasted. Rick fell and hit the floor with a nice face plant.
"Who did it?!" Rick got up swearing at everything and anything. When he saw me his face turn from angry to furious. "Why?"
"Because I saw the lonely horn over there and decided to use it. Oh yeah, it's Gabe's birthday." I had a duh sort of tone towards him. He has been celebrating Gabe's birthday along with everyone else. That also includes if Rick had a girlfriend or not.
"Has nothing to do with me." Rick said while picking himself off the messy floor. "He is your brother."
"Don't forget he is your cousin," I shot back. I just wanted Rick for once to actually care about Gabe. "just this once."
I looked at Rick with the sadest face that I could pull. He looked at the ceiling then back at me. "Just this once."
My sad face broke into a big grin. I ran over and gave Rick a hug. Nearly crushing him. "Wait, I have to get him a present. You stay here and watch him while I run to a few stores."

When I finally got outside I was blasted with freezing cold wind. It's not even November yet and this is what we get? I pulled the sweatshirt tighter around me, hoping to block off the tiny bullets of cold. The wind was biting at my cheeks and my ankles. My face quickly starting feeling numb.
I winced every time a blast hit. When I was hit with a couple already I started running the half mile to the store. When I reached the big Wal-mart I took off my stiff sweatshirt. The heater was on full blast so it felt like you were on a beach in California.
All of a sudden I saw Collin walk into the sports section. He most be getting more football stuff. I walked towards the section towards him. I wanted to tackle him for what he and his teammates did. It was truly selfish, of course that perfectly describes him. I restrained from tackling that lump. "Are you going to apologize to Chaza?"
Surprising him he jumped three feet in the air. He turned around and sighed. "Why do you come at the worst moments?"
"You still haven't answered my question. And yes I do have to come at the worst and the best moments. So are you going to or not. 'Cause she is really sensitive sometimes." I crossed my arms to support my strength in this conversation.
