Chapter 11
Drew and I where seated in the back of the restaurant. We had just ordered our dinner and I was as nervous as heck. I had no idea what to say and I was fiddling with my fingers under the table. Who won't be nervous on their first date?
"When's your next game?" I asked Drew. It had been silent since we got in here, so I had to start a conversation sometime. Right?
"Um, next Friday. It will be our last game, and if we win we can go to state two weeks later. How's track, I mean, do you have a meet or anything soon?" Drew told me while taking a sip of his Coke.
It took me awhile to answer, because we usually don't do meets in the fall. But our coach decided we need a couple. So I have a few coming up, "yeah I have a few in the fall, this fall, it's next week and it's at our high school track. Usually we don't do meets in the fall, but our coach decided it was a good idea and stuff." I let my voice fade off at the end.
I mentally slapped myself for the hundredth time. First I do stupid comments and now I'm ranting like there is no tomorrow. This is not going well.
Drew leaned forward then back, like he regretted going any closer to me. He looked a tad nervous like me. Why should he be nervous? I bet he has been on a lot of dates. "So your on the boys varsity?"
"Yeah I am. I'm on it because the coach thought i should be with people a little bit my pace. When I'm on the boys varsity I know I have to work harder, even if I am the fastest. The girls one is always to slow." I answered him while spying our food making its way through the maze of tables. But that wasn't what really caught my attention. What caught it was a person sitting alone at a table, watching us. I gridded my teeth together, "can you excuse me for a moment?" I asked not waiting for Drew to answer. I got up and started walking to where that person was.
I sat down right in front of him and started tapping my foot under the table, waiting for him to talk. He took his time eating his salad and leaned back and smiled at me . What is with this boy? I finally spat out the words, "Rick what are you doing here?" I said trying not to shout at the damn boy
"I'm eating. You know when food..." Rick tried to finish but I put my hand on his mouth before he could lecture me on eating.
I sighed and dropped my hand and placed my head on the wood table and let out a huff. I thought I was mad at Rick, but I'm not. I was glad he was here maybe he can help me get through this date. Wait? My date! I jumped up out of my chair and left a confused Rick behind.
I can't believe I forgot about Drew, my first date. I reached Drew just in time to see that we got our food. I sat down across from him and laughed nervously. "Sorry."
"That's okay you came in time for food." He said while grabbing his fork. When he wasn't looking I smiled for him not asking any further questions.
~~
After dinner we went to the park a couple blocks away from we're we ate. It was a nice park and there was trees everywhere with a nice path going through it. It was pretty narrow, but that really doesn't matter when your with someone you like.
The trees right now were pretty much leafless and there was some frost on them. When we were walking the path side by side, holding hands, it didn't matter about the park or any of that crap. All that mattered was Drew and this date.
I looked in front of us only to see darkness ahead. I smiled a small smile. Knowing that we're going to be here awhile.
Drew squeezed my hand to get my attention. I looked up at him and smiled even more. He leaned down and whispered quietly in my ear, "look up." Then he pointed up so I could see where he was talking about.
I looked up and saw a shooting star, I gasped. That star was the first shooting star I had ever seen. I closed my eyes and opened them back up to see Drew smiling at me, "you make a wish?" He asked looking straight into my green eyes with his.
I shrugged and said, "maybe." I said teasingly, trying to make him curious about it. He smirked finally catching on. I ran ahead of him a little bit and reached the intersection of paths. I heard his quiet footsteps coming and I went to the right. I made sure to make no noise.
It was hard wearing a dress while running. I stopped and started walking down a little farther. I heard Drew behind me at the intersection wondering what path.
The dead leaves laid on the ground. Waiting to be covered with snow. The trees were frost covered and were glistening from the moons light. I heard Drew closer to me now but I didn't move. I just leaned on the tree closet to me and waited. He finally came after a few minutes.
He was panting a little bit but was able to talk. "Why?" He asked while walking towards me. He leaned against the tree next to mine and sighed.
I shrugged and sighed, "I needed to run." I did need it. Track practice is almost over in a few weeks. I frowned and slide down the tree tree, making sure my dress doesn't snag. Drew came over and sat by me and leaned his head on the rough bark.
He turned his head so he could see me I smiled and wondered if this was really happening. It was and you know what I wanted this moment to last forever. Just him and me. He grabbed my hand and placed it between us. I held back a blush and was about to start ranting when I saw something that didn't exist.
It was the he-devil and she-devil.
Collin and Nicole.
I stood up and was about to walk away when I heard Collin say, "hey man." I cringed and spun back around to see Collin giving Drew a man hug. I held back a snarl.
Could this date get any worse?
