Chapter 6
The weekend passed by slowly. Gabe and I didn't speak or see each other at all. Let us put it this way, it was dreadful. When Monday morning came around I tried talking to him, no use.
I got on the bus that morning with tears threatening to burst the dam I built. I had to fight through it! I got to school and there were my friends waiting for me. I bypassed them to go inside school. I could see my friends sending me worried glances through the glass entranced. I got to my locker to find Drew at his. When did we have lockers by each other? I walked up and glanced at him. This is awkward.
"Hi." I said, brave.
"Hello. Your on the senior varsity track team right?" He wondered.
"Yes, and you must be Drew Race?"
"Yep. You look familiar. Have we met before?"
"In kindergarten, first, second, and third grade. I just realized that this was your home town."
"Yeah, it was." He said gloomy.
Then he turned around and walked away. I watched how he made perfect strides and how his hips made small swings back and forth. Whoa, what are you saying Kyle? I shook my head and headed to Mr. Tweets room.
~~
When lunch came around my friends pounded me with questions. 'Why were you sad this morning?' And 'why didn't you talk to us?' And so on. I answered every single question.
Then I asked, for once. "Where's Felicia?" That's when I saw her. She was flirting away with Logan. He is on the basketball team and is kinda nice. They finished talking and went their separate ways. Not without Felicia giving him a kiss on the cheek. Oh no, we're going to listen to Felicia's I just got a date speech.
I just know it.
Right when I was getting up, I was pulled back down. "You are suffering with us!" Emily whispered in my ear. Felicia came over and told us what this and that, and all that crap. I groaned.
That's when I saw J.T in the corner of my eye. I mouthed the word help to him. He looked at me and only smirked. That idiot. I have to suffer through this.
~~
When lunch was gladly over. I headed to my last classes. They were simple and boring. After school I had track, today was training for the devil and his soul takers. I made sure I was late to practice. When I got there I saw J.T snickering at me. I walked over to him and was about to give him a piece of my mind. When he shoved a little white paper into my face. It said:
Kyle Saint, training:
Collin Lance
Nic Martinez
Drew Race
I slapped my forehead. This is so not cool. I'm stuck with two idiots and a cute boy with a mystery. How fun. I'm being sarcastic. Well, I'm going to make the two hours of training absolute torture for them.
~~
"I hate you!" Nic said to me between pants.
"Yeah, what was up with the fifty hill runs on Royal Pit?" Collin spat at me, well...tried.
I just smirked at the two idiots. I looked over at Drew. He had a thoughtful expression on his face. Then he said. "What's your best at Royal Pit, without stopping?"
I looked at him for a little bit then answered. "A 184. Why you ask? Because the real record was set 23 years ago by Matt Sun. He got 247." Drew looked away and mumbled something. "Alright. Well, we are doing this again on Wednesday."
With that said, I left the two idiots panting like crazy for air, and a boy thoughtfully looking at the Royal Pit. Mumbling whatever was on his mind.
~~
When I got home. I was attacked by Gabe into a bear hug. He was crying.
"What's up little dude?" I asked with a worried tone.
"I'm sorry I didn't talk to you." he said looking up from crying.
"Why are you saying sorry? I'm sorry for not telling you sooner about Thomas. I promise we're going to talk to mom and dad when they get back." I was looking anywhere but him. If I saw tears on my brother. I know I would cry to.
Then he said. " Is it to late to get pizza?"
~~
After our pizza dinner and homework we went to bed. There was a knock on my window. What now? I just had to get out of bed now? I looked over to see J.T on a ladder. I'm on the second floor. I opened the window for him.
"What do you want?" I said, cranky. Wow, I need sleep.
"Calm down. I just came here to tell you that we will be working on the homecoming dance." J.T surprised me.
"What? Why? I didn't sign up for the dance, neither did you."
"Can you please blame your lovestruck friend Felicia!"
"I hate her so much right now." I mumbled.
"Goodnight and sweet dreams."
J.T left before my rant got fired up. He knows me that well. "Goodnight." I whispered into the darkness of the night.
~~
The next day I walked right up to Felicia. "Why in all the people in the school you wrote down J.T and I for the dance committee?" I was mad, no, wait, angry at that girl. Oh, and she knows it!
"See I signed you up because I need help." She told me, sadly.
"Why?" I wondered. I'm going to cave.
"Because I ran out of ideas and the idea I'm planning needs work a lot of work."
"Fine. But there are no promises." Darn it! I caved. I hate it when I do that. I can't wait to see J.T's face when I tell him. This will be interesting.
~~
"What do you mean you cave?" J.T screamed at me. He was pissed.
"Because I can't just say no and walk away."
He groaned.
"Alright. I'll do it. But you have to do me a favor." He smirked. Oh no.
"What is it?" I asked scared.
~~
"I'm not doing this!" I screamed at J.T. No way in heck was I going to do that for him.
His little favor consisted of me digging throw cow poop for his mothers necklace. I'm not even going close. "You said you will do anything." He sung to me. He is dead.
I walked over to the first pile and took a deep breath. I stuffed my gloved hand into it. I made a face. It was gross.
I did that to nine other piles 'till I found his mothers necklace. It needed some washing alright. I walked over to J.T and said. "Here it is. Oh and by the way, you are a terrible friend." I walked away hearing him laugh behind me.
~~
On Friday my brother and I decided to go fishing. When we were walking down the path to Lake Crab, Gabe was the first to break the peaceful silence. "What are you going to do when cousin Rick comes here?"
I walked a little faster crunching on the fall leaves and humming to a unknown song. I didn't know what I was going to do. So I just said. "Race you to the dock."
Then we both took off. I was running from fear, my cousin, and Gabe. Because he was catching up.
