Chapter: 18 Regret

SHELBY'S POV:

I was heartbroken by what Andy said. It wasn't my fault. I didn't choose to be this way. I didn't know I was half immune. Andy made me out to be a monster.

I ran down the hall as quickly as I could. I didn't want them to catch up to me. I wanted to be left alone. I kept running and running until I turned right and went into a room.

I turned on the light and looked around. Fear started to make my heart pump very quickly. There were about 40 walkers roaming around the gym. They all looked at me and walked towards me. I got out my pistol and pointed it at them.

I yelled "STOP" so they all stopped. I put my gun down and walked close to one. It smelled me then followed me as I examined more of them. They wouldn't hurt or bite me.

I looked around then I pointed at a person on the ground trying to crawl away as they were bleeding out. I said "attack".

All 40 walkers started to walk towards the guy and soon they were having him as an all you can eat buffet. I smiled a bit knowing I could use an army of walkers to my advantage.

DARYL'S POV:

That was it...we couldn't find Shelby. I wont give up on finding her though. As we continue to search for an exit I will continue to look for her. I will never give up on family.

We caught our breath from running as we walked down the hallway. Was was a bit slow. I looked back and examined him. He looked terrible. His skin was pale and his cheeks were flushed. His eyes were glassy and he was sweating really badly.

Kiley was holding his hand was silent tears ran down her face. I stopped Andy then he turned around and saw Chase. I said "Chase you don't look so good man". Chase coughed for a good 2 minutes before he could speak. Once his coughing fit ended he said "Daryl I need to talk to you in private". Chase kissed Kiley on the cheek then he looked back at me

We stepped to the side where the others couldn't hear us. He looked at Kiley then back at me. A few tears ran down his cheeks as he said "I know Im infected. I also know Im obviously dying. I love Kiley so much. Shes made me so happy even in this shitty world. I need you to promise me that you will take good care of Kiley once Im gone. She needs someone she can talk to because if she is left by herself she wont survive. I need you to please promise me that Daryl".

I hugged him then I said "of course I will Chase. You have my word. Shes in good hands". Chase thanked me then he slowly walked back over to Kiley and hugged her. She hugged him back and said "I love you Chase". He kissed her on her forehead then he said "I love you too sweetheart".

Andy looked at them then looked at the ground. A few tears ran down his face, but he quickly wiped them away. I grabbed Andy then I pulled him aside. I asked "whats wrong man?".

Andy broke down crying as he said "I should have been supportive to her like Kiley is with Chase. I should have shown her how much I loved and cared about her. I was too worried about how I would feel after shes gone that I completely ignored how she must feel. She must be so scared and worried. Daryl Im a terrible person. I may never get to tell her how sorry I am".

He was hysterical at this point. Our group was falling apart. There was nothing that I could do to help. I couldn't magically heal Chase and I couldn't just make Shelby appear right before our eyes".

For once I had no plan, no idea, I had nothing. I looked around then I noticed  that one of the side doors was cracked open. My first thought was that Shelby was listening to our whole conversation. I smiled and said "come out ass kicker".

A walker came bursting out of the door. I got out my pistol and shot it in the head. It dropped to the floor with a loud thud. I said "lets keep moving. Others will be here any minute". We ran down the hallway and we went through a set of swinging doors. I went through so the doors cane back and smacked Chase in the face. It knocked him to the ground pretty aggressively.

Andy and Kiley helped him up as I looked for walkers. Once he was up we got him into the next hallway. We needed somewhere safe to stay to rest. I looked and say a door at the other end of the hallway. I stopped dead in my tracks as walkers poured out of the doors at the other end of the hallway. They all stared at us. As they moaned and groaned, blood dripped from their lips and flesh hung from their teeth.

They were about to walk towards us, but all of a sudden they stopped. I was so confused. I had no idea what the hell they were doing. I wasnt gonna take on all of them with just us 4. It would be a complete waste of ammo.
