Dawn's POV
As I entered the coffee shop, my eyes automatically darted across the room. Seeing nobody suspicious or out of place, I hurriedly sat to my favourite table. The table was near the door and a bit hidden because of the plant near it. It's been a habit of mine to check if there was something different in the atmosphere because well, technically, I am a rogue now. Well, I've been a rogue for a year. That means I've been on a run all those time. Wait - 'on the run'? Wow, I made myself sound like a criminal or something. If you are wondering where I am, i can assure you this: I am far away from my previous pack. People are starting to look at me and I did my best to ignore them. Maybe they find me weird, a girl wearing a hoodie inside a coffee shop. It's not that I can do anything about it. If I take my hoodie off, other wolves may notice me and that means I have to leave this place.
'Dawn!!!'
I froze as I saw my friend, Carly and mentally face palmed myself. I could feel more stares thus making me uncomfortable and I wanted to leave the cafe but I know that I couldn't.
'Hello there, missy' she was grinning from ear to ear as she took the seat in front of me. 'You didn't have to shout, you know?' I said to her in a hushed voice 'what if somebody heard you?' Instead of being annoyed, she stuck out her mouth and waved her hand, dismissing what I said. 'Don't worry. I made sure I wasn't followed.' I sighed deeply 'I know but still, I can't stop it. What if you get in trouble? I don't want to lose you.'
Her expression softened and she looked at me fondly. 'I won't get into trouble Dawn and neither will you. Don't worry, okay?'.
I sighed again this time and let it pass. There's no use on arguing with her. It's pretty obvious that she'll dismiss whatever reasons I will present to her thus making my reasons useless.
'So, heard any news?' I ask direct to the point not wanting to waste time. Not to be rude or anything but the lesser the time she spends talking to me, the lesser the possibility of other wolves seeing us together.
'You're safe, nothing new actually. Though remember the club you enthusiastically suggested that we visit the other night? Stay away from it. Recently, it has been a hotspot for the young ones.'
I rolled my eyes at her. 'First, I clearly remember it was you who suggested about that club and second, warning me to stay away is pointless because you know that I don't like going to those kinds of places.' She chuckled lightly. 'Alright, alright no need to get riled up. Now, I'm going to order for the both of us. I'll be back." Before I was able to stop her, she was already out of my reach. I watched Carly as she lined up to buy us coffee. A ghost of a smile danced across my lips as I'm watching her. I met Carly in this coffee shop three months ago. I came upon this town as I was escaping from a group of wolves, which after a week, found out that a rogue was in their territory. I was drinking a cup of coffee when she offered me a cookie and I knew then she's a wolf. I panicked at once. I was tired from the escape I've made and if she mind links other pack members I was pretty sure they'll be able to capture me. What surprised me though was she did the opposite of what I expected her to do. Instead, she offered me shelter and food. From then on, every Wednesday, we see each other here to discuss things and she give me warnings if a pack member was about to go someplace near me. This was her idea, by the way. I asked her one time why was she helping me, a rogue who is in their territory when the right thing to do was hand me to the alpha. All she said was and I quote 'Sometimes, we should bend the rules once in a while.'
'Penny for your thoughts?' she asked as she placed the coffee on the table together with the croissants. She loves them. 'I was thinking of how much I'm lucky am I to have met you.' I gave her a genuine smile of which she returned with her own. We sat in a comfortable silence as she bit into her croissants and me taking a sip of the coffee. I looked outside realizing it would be dark soon and I had to go home. Just as when I was about to bid her goodbye, I felt as if a bucket of ice has been poured into me as a man's voice reached my ears. 'Carly?'
