Annabeth

"All this way to be defeated by a measly sword," Percy said weakly, using a shaking hand to tuck a piece of Annabeth's hair behind her ear.

"Percy," She whispered, her grey eyes filling with tears, "Percy please, you promised!"

He grabbed her hand in his. Ignoring the blood that covered his, she pressed it to her face.

The prophecy had come true.

"I love you," he whispered in a shallow breath, brushing away tears that threatened to fall. Annabeth's mouth was trembling. Percy beckoned her down so he could place a shaky kiss on her forehead.

His breathing hitched, his ruined stomach still oozing blood, "tell everybody I'm sorry, especially Mom. Tell her I tried, and I love her."

Annabeth nodded, her fingernails cutting crescents in her own skin.

"Do me one last favour?" Percy whispered, placing his camp necklace in her hand.

Annabeth held it to her face, tears starting to fall.

"Keep living."

Percy's eyes closed, and the son of Poseidon went still. His hand slipped out of Annabeth's. The noise it made as it thudded to the ground was so much louder then it should've been. But it seemed to go straight to Annabeth's heart.

"Percy?" Annabeth begged urgently, tentatively jabbing his shoulder.

He didn't move.

"PERCY!" She screamed, collapsing on the ground beside him.

Annabeth would never see his sea-green eyes open again. She would never feel his warm arms wrap around her waist, distracting her from her work. See him ruffle his already messy hair. Hear his laugh. Feel his soft lips on hers. Smell his sweet ocean scent. Feel her heart race when they snuck out after curfew. But most of all, she'd miss him. Percy, her sweet Seaweed Brain that she shared so many memories with. The trip to Las Vegas in the animal truck. Circe's Island. Sharing her fatal flaw with him. Dancing on Olympus. Kissing him before he blew up the volcano. Their underwater kiss. Being reunited after eight months. Spending the night in the stables with him. That's all they were now, memories.

He'd taken a knife for her, as she had him, but this time at a much greater cost.

Her hand constricted around his necklace, the familiar beads cutting into her palm.

She was all alone, her worst nightmares coming true.

And he was gone.

Forever.
