[Part 8]
Over the course of his long life, Kay have had many dates before. As he watched his human acquaintances all find their lovers and take wives, birthing children, Kay had relentlessly tried to find the right woman to go along with him and his mental faculties –or sometimes, the lack of one. To date, Kay had found himself married at least thirty times, and unofficially engaged to an estimated number of forty women. He had been faithful husbands and lovers towards every single woman, but it was rather hard for him to stay by them, and remember every single one of them now that he looked back on them.
His long vampire life hadn't been blessed with perfect memories, and Kay was glad that he couldn't remember every single excruciating second of his life since he came to be.
Still, Kay figured that this date that he was about to have –he would remember it for a few more centuries at least. He was sure that this would be fresh in his mind for a long, long time, because his jaw had almost literally dropped when he met his date outside the restaurant.
Vanda Riodan had not pulled any punches at all. Kay was still in the midst of deciding whether he should curse his luck for having every single man in the vicinity admiring the body of his date, or be proud that he'd scored one of the prettiest woman in the city, when Vanda had stalked all the way up to his frozen self with a seductive smile. Kay knew that the amount of makeup applied on her already vampirically beautiful face meant that Vanda was intent on flirting with him, and wrapped his mind –with trouble –around that idea.
Kay had known that the woman was seductive and sexy, but she had taken it to another level with her stunning halter dress. It was bright red, looking as if it had just come fresh off the red carpet, with cutouts showing impressive waist.
To be honest, Kay couldn't remember much of what he had done to greet his stunning date, and how much stuttering and stumbling he must have done. All he knew was that he suddenly found himself transported to their table in the restaurant that was beginning to look too 'low-classed' for Vanda. And this was coming from Kay, who had planned to surprise the woman by inviting her to one of the most luxurious restaurant in the city.
Well, he could be damned, because the surprise had been on him instead.
"So?" Vanda smiled over the top of the wineglass, only pretending to drink. Vampires usually didn't go on dinner dates, but Kay wasn't a normal vampire. He'd gotten the feeling that Vanda had wanted to know more about him when she accepted his proposal for a date, and if she wanted to know; he was willing to show her his peculiarities. "Is our date going to involve me pretending to eat and laughing while you do your thing?"
"What do you mean by 'do your thing'?" Kay asked with honest confusion, smiling mildly while waiting for a waiter to take their orders. He knew enough that Vanda was going to opt for the smallest meal, and wouldn't bother her about it. He, on the other hand, fully planned to ingest the entire pan-seared steak with lobster sauce that was widely advertised on the menu.
"Well, the both of us can't eat." Vanda pointed out with blandness, skimming her eyes boredly over the menu. Oh, the problems of gastronomy that the vampires weren't able to enjoy. Kay wasn't sure if he wanted to feel guilty or blessed at the moment. "It kind of defeats the purpose of a dinner date, don't you think so?"
Kay smiled when a waiter interrupted their conversation to take orders, ranting off his preference while Vanda made an excuse about not having appetite and ending up opting for a simple salad side. Once the waiter had taken his leave however, Kay settled easily into his seat, briefly considering about how to drop the bomb. He had wanted to know more about Vanda first before talking about himself, but he knew she was a curious soul, and would freak out if she saw him eat his steak before a heads up.
