[Part 18]

Vanda was glad that she had been given the opportunity to set up her own television network, to be able to finally do something in protection of her family. But nowadays, she was just glad that the hectic work for a startup network took up all her attention and time.

Now that the banishment was repealed, Vanda saw the man everywhere. He hung around everyone in the Council like a leech, hanging around like he was part of the Council –when she knew very well that he wasn't. What Vanda didn't get as well as why her Council mates were suddenly so welcoming of the man, as if he hadn't been caught talking to Skalov and planning their downfall together. She knew Dante and Louis to be the forgiving sort. Jack and Laz probably didn't care a single bit if the man came back at all, and she knew Chris was always impartial about anything that he wasn't part of.

But never in her entire life would she imagine that Zanetta and Jean-Jacques would be so forgiving of a man who was threatening the safety of their Coven. She was almost convinced that everyone in the Council had lost her mind being friendly to Kay. Or rather, everyone had begun to call the man 'Kieran'. The man had outdone himself this time; she would admit. He left the Council as Kay Gallagher, and came back months afterwards as Kieran, forgiven immediately by even their most unforgiving member: Zanetta.

But Vanda didn't have time to think or worry about matters like that. She had an entire television network to set up, a company to start up. Vanda had never imagined that she would ever be a boss of her own broadcasting station, but the imagination was slowly forming to life as she selected a location, contacted Jean-Jacques for the relevant security issues, and had begun having her station built.

Having already resigned from Parthenon Studios, Vanda now made use of the office she had in Leconte Securities, planning out the startup of the network. Pierre Devaux had already agreed to give her the rights over one of his personal satellites –even though she had no idea what that man might need more than one for. Still, a personal satellite meant that she didn't have to fear her mix-ups in her networks, and that her information was secure.

Vanda had never hit into better luck than being able to convince Pierre Devaux into a sponsorship. She guessed she had Jean-Jacques to thank as well, who, according to Renee, had went back on his refusal of her proposal, and dissected it carefully with his future-father-in-law. Jean-Jacques, in general, had given her such a stellar referral that Pierre Devaux had almost been eager to see Vanda's rise to success. And with the expectations of Jean-Jacques, Renee and Pierre on her shoulder, Vanda knew she couldn't risk spending her time thinking about a man who had entered and escaped her heart faster than she could realize it.

Polite knocks on her door made her look up, and it opened to show Roger-Luc's smiling face.

"I just came to say good luck, and if you need any help, I'm free."

Vanda couldn't help but smile at the young vampire's thoughtfulness. She decided that Roger-Luc's help now made up for all the hell he'd caused her when she was only beginning to teach him the basics of being a vampire. Roger-Luc had been a mischievous boy, bravely trying out his skills. But sometimes too bravely; and Vanda had spent much effort wiping memories and making sure they were all safe from exposure. That had, however, only been the initial part of lessons, and Roger-Luc was now finding his own place in the Council and Coven, comfortable with helping out.

"I need a vice president for the company." Vanda took the man's suggestion quickly, beckoning him in. "Would you like to fill in that post?"

"Are you kidding?" Roger-Luc gaped, blinking furiously in difficult understanding. "You're asking me to be a vice president? I've never worked for anyone before, and now you want me to head a company?"
