[Part 19]

"Hide me." Kieran's arrival at the birthday party was immediately met by a flustered father, and both he and Louis exchanged surprised looks while Dante did his best to hide his own body behind the two men at the door.

The question why was not needed, for shortly after, a young boy appeared before them, blinking his blue eyes curiously at the both of them. Once again, Kieran and Louis exchanged looks, wondering who the boy was. He looked distantly familiar, with a set of faint Italian features that Kieran knew he should be familiar with.

"Who are you? I wasn't aware Leon made a new friend." Louis asked politely with a smile down at the boy who looked seven or eight.

"Uncle Louis!" The boy scowled quickly, crossing his arms in a huff as realization struck through Kieran in a single moment. "I am Leon! How can you have forgotten me?"

"Leon?" Louis repeated, the shock easy on his face. "Par les Dieu, it's impossible. Leon's turning 2 today, not 8."

"I am turning 2 today!" The young boy stomped his feet. "But I look 7. It's annoying!"

"Jack did try to warn us that the boy was going to grow exponentially quickly." Kieran reminded Louis quickly, trying to remember when the boy was just the height of his shin. Now Leon was at the height of his hip, almost as tall as his waist, dressed in young boy's clothes.

"Mr. Kay, have you seen Daddy?" Leon blinked brightly shortly afterwards, and Kay, for the sake of his friend, slowly shook his head.

"He's been hiding from me since I started asking him when I was going to have a little brother or little sister." Leon frowned once more. "Does he not want to give me a sibling?"

Louis suppressed his choke of laughter behind wrecking coughs, and Kieran felt the indignant Dante shifting uncomfortably behind them. Kieran did his best as well to school his expression so that he didn't show any utter amusement for the young boy.

"I'm sure he's busy. Besides, having another child is a decision for both your mother and father." Kieran replied kindly, pinching Dante behind his back for the heck of it. If the Italian man protested, Kieran heard none of it while Leon frowned.

"It's boring with me being the only kid around. When is God-Pa Jean-Jacques and God-Ma Renee going to have a kid?"

This time, Louis wheezed for air, unable to breathe through wrecking coughs while Kieran let himself chuckle at the boy's innocent questions.

"Jean-Jacques is busy keeping everyone safe. He can't focus on making a baby with Renee at the moment." Kieran answered as politely as he could, feeling Dante beginning to sneak off from behind him, presumably in search for better shields. "But it's your birthday today, Leon. You should take advantage of being the VIP today."

"Yeah, I should." Leon nodded duteously. However, before more could be said, Alvron's interruption of the conversation came rudely as he grabbed the boy away.

"Look, a bunch of girls' coming in. I invited them. Come, be my wingman. I was going to look for your father, but he's gone." Alvron instructed the flustered child, and Louis and Kieran watched helplessly as the boy was whisked away towards a crowd of entering women. Kieran was pretty sure that none of the women were familiar with anyone in the party, only crashing parties for the fun of it, and briefly wondered what Lexi and Jean-Jacques would say about it.

Still, Kieran shrugged to himself and chuckled along with Louis about Dante's fate while they made for the back, where the mother of the child was busy making sure the party went on well. Kieran figured that he wasn't surprised to find Dante and Lexi arguing about something; perhaps one of the many things there were to worry about their child. Both men were wise enough to leave their gifts quietly at the side in the rapidly increasing pile, leaving just as Dante solved the problem by kissing his wife passionately.
